Babylon Berlin on SBS and SBS on Demand S1E1 – Berlin at the end of the Roaring Twenties is brimming with organised crime and political extremism.
The old militaristic elite have not yet abdicated, the metropolis is flush with talent and ambition, but beneath the glittering surface, a darker monster is starting to flex its muscles.
Toni roams the streets of Berlin with a group of young peers, fighting for survival, and putting her sister Charlotte in constant risk. Meanwhile, Detective Gereon’s investigations lead him into the boxing milieu, and uncomfortably close to Hitler’s SA as the Nazis’ march to power begins.
Episode One:
Rath is still suppressing the uncontrollable tremor of his arm with the aid of Methylsafrylamin, when he is called to a crime scene: In a pine grove several dead bodies have been discovered.
They are members of the Red Fortress, who had been shot and killed in the raid on the printing works. A telegram is showing one of the dead men to be Kardakow, but Rath, who has seen a photograph of Kardakow, is convinced the man is not among the dead.
