Vinnie Gibaldi crowned MasterChef Australia 2026 winner on Channel 10 – Vinnie Gibaldi has won MasterChef Australia 2026 after defeating close friend Petro Papathomas in an emotional Grand Finale on Channel 10.
Vinnie claimed the trophy and $250,000 in prize money after months of competition. Petro finished as runner-up and receives $40,000, while Aaron takes home $10,000 after finishing third.
For Channel 10, the finale closes another major season of one of Australian television’s most recognisable formats. The result also gives viewers a new name to follow beyond the kitchen, as Vinnie begins the next stage of his culinary career.
A Grand Finale Built On Pressure
The Grand Finale gave Vinnie and Petro one final mystery box challenge before the season’s ultimate pressure test.
Vinnie hit trouble in round one when he overcooked his duck. However, he changed direction and drew on skills he had practised after Josh Niland’s visit to the MasterChef Australia kitchen.
He rebuilt his dish around hibachi flathead, and the judges praised the recovery. The move gave him a five-point lead heading into the final challenge.
Cherish Finden Sets The Final Test
Pastry chef Cherish Finden set the final pressure test with a Chinese Afternoon Tea challenge. The task demanded precision across more than 150 steps.
Across five intense hours, both finalists battled technical setbacks and rising pressure as they recreated Cherish’s petit gateaux.
Petro mounted a strong comeback with a black sesame cheesecake teapot. But Vinnie stayed consistent across the challenge.
The judges praised his mandarin petit gateau and compared it favourably with Cherish’s own. Vinnie finished with 80 points, while Petro ended the finale on 67.
Vinnie Reacts To The Win
I don’t really have any words to be honest, I feel like that’s just insane! I couldn’t have imagined it from the first day, but I am so, so grateful for absolutely everything that I have experienced here, all the friends that I have made, all the people I’ve met and just how far I’ve come. I couldn’t have done it without all the support from everyone.
Vinnie Gibaldi
Vinnie also paid tribute to Petro after the pair cooked side by side in the final service of the season.
I’m so proud of you, man, and honestly, it was just a blast cooking alongside you this whole time, every time, every cook.
Vinnie Gibaldi
Petro congratulated his friend and said he felt proud of his own run through the competition.
I’m really happy for Vinnie, he’s worked really hard and he deserves it. I’m very proud of what I’ve done throughout the competition, I just missed the mark today.
