SDIN Award finalists revealed – Screen Producers Australia (SPA) and Screen Diversity and Inclusion Network (SDIN) are pleased to today co-announce the three finalists of the annual Screen Diversity & Inclusion (SDIN) Award, with the winner being announced at the beginning of the 21st Annual SPA Awards.

The prestigious Awards ceremony will take place at The Star Gold Coast on Friday, 05 May 2023, as part of SCREEN FOREVER 37.

This year’s finalists include First Day, series two, produced by SPA members Epic Films and KOJO Studios, Latecomers produced by SPA members Lazy Susan Films and Mad Ones Films, and The Australian Wars produced by Blackfella Films.

The SDIN Award recognises an Australian-based project, producer and/or production company and/or screen organisation that has made a significant contribution through excellence or impact to diversity and inclusion either on or offscreen within the Australian screen industry.

“The SDIN is proud to announce the SDIN Award shortlist, including First Day, Latecomers and The Australian Wars. The Awards panel have chosen these shows because they push boundaries and have the power to shift how the public perceives people who identify as LGBTIQ+, people with disability and First Nations people, who have traditionally been underrepresented on and off screen,” said Michelle Cheng, SDIN Co-Chair.

“These programs are examples of how authentic and meaningful representation can inform, educate, and inspire social change,” said Michelle.

“Every year, the contenders for the SDIN Award are impossible to separate, such is the quality of diverse representation we are seeing on our screens today. These finalists are each deserving of recognition for their unique, exciting, impactful storytelling. We can’t wait to celebrate the SDIN Award at SCREEN FOREVER 37 in May 2023,” said Kelrick Martin, SDIN Co-Chair.

The winner will be announced by both SDIN Co-Chairs at the upcoming SPA Awards, which are the 21st incarnation of the prestigious Awards ceremony, which continues to celebrate excellence in the screen production industry. Entry to the ceremony is included in a SCREEN FOREVER 37 Gold Coast Pass.

After a completely sold-out event in 2022, delegates are encouraged to register early to secure their spot at www.screenforever.org.au.
