Tonight | The Hunger Games on SBS 2: Katniss enters the arena – The Hunger Games makes its SBS 2 channel premiere. In the dystopian nation of Panem, Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her younger sister’s place in a televised fight for survival. It airs Saturday 24 October 2026 at 7:30pm on SBS 2, with streaming on SBS On Demand.

The choice that sends Katniss into the arena is a family act made under a brutal political system. From that point, survival is never only about outlasting the other competitors; it also tests what she is prepared to do to remain herself.

The Capitol’s annual contest

The Capitol demands that each of Panem’s 12 districts send a teenage boy and girl into the Hunger Games. When her sister is selected, 16-year-old Katniss steps forward instead. She leaves District 12 for an arena where some opponents have spent their lives training for this moment.

Survival and impossible choices

Katniss must navigate the competition while weighing survival against humanity and love. The film’s conflict is built around the imbalance between her district and better-prepared rivals, as well as the power of the Capitol that forces the contest to happen. The SBS 2 broadcast is a channel premiere, and the film is also available to stream through SBS On Demand.
