The Assassinations of Queen Victoria on SBS airs Saturday 22 August at 8.35pm on SBS and streams on SBS On Demand. The documentary tells the extraordinary true story of eight separate attempts on Queen Victoria’s life.
Queen Victoria ruled over an empire stretching across the world, but her visibility also made her a target during her 63-year reign.
The premiere gives SBS a royal-history story with danger at its centre, looking beyond pageantry to the risk and political tension around Victoria’s public life.
The film begins with an attempt on Constitution Hill and follows the pattern of attacks that continued as politically motivated and disillusioned men took aim at the Queen.
What happens in The Assassinations of Queen Victoria
The story asks how long Victoria’s luck could hold as each plot grew bolder and her refusal to hide from public view became part of her legend.
