Season One, Episode One:
Episode one reveals the secrets of its groundbreaking design by legendary engineer Sir Nigel Gresley – including revolutionary innovations such as a corridor between the cab and the usually separate coal tender that allowed a change of crew without stopping. It was to prove vital in the race for Scotsman’s owners to cut journey times and attract more passengers.
But as the era of steam came to an end, and diesel and electric took over, the locomotive’s fate looked like it lay in the scrapyard – until businessman Alan Pegler stepped in.
