King & Conqueror on SBS and SBS on Demand S1E3 – A thousand years ago, a new King of England is crowned, triggering a series of events that will change the course of English and European history forever.
Two men, Harold of Wessex & Duke William of Normandy, find themselves locked in a fight for that same crown, which they never wanted nor expected. They start as allies but end as foes at the Battle of Hastings, where one of them must die.
Series One, Episode Three: Brothers
Harold and Sweyn return to Wessex to rescue Edith but fail. Harold realises the only way to save her is to overthrow the crown. He needs to unite the earldoms of Mercia and Northumbria so they can return to England. Tensions between William and King Henry escalate and William decides to negotiate an alliance of his own with Normandy’s barons.
Series One, Episode Four: So Be It
Edith is rescued as the Earls seize control of England and Tostig is named Earl of Northumbria, much to Sweyn’s horror – he threatens revenge and is banished by Harold. Lady Emma plots to give King Hardrada of Norway the English throne, but is discovered.
