9/11: The Unseen Tapes on SBS revisits the first 48 hours after the September 11 attacks, using archive footage and the recollections of people who lived through the events.
The documentary returns to the extraordinary scenes that followed as New York, Washington and the wider world tried to understand what had happened. The programme marks 25 years since the attacks with a focus on the immediate human response.
Its point of view is shaped by the people on the ground: witnesses, first responders and others caught in a moment that changed global politics and everyday life. The recovered material gives the anniversary an intimate, first-person perspective.
For Australian viewers, the documentary offers a chance to revisit a world event that was watched live from the other side of the globe and whose consequences continue to be felt.
9/11: The Unseen Tapes premieres Sunday 13 September at 7.30pm on SBS and SBS On Demand.
