WIN Network and Network 10 Reach Short-Term Deal to Continue Broadcast Services – WIN Network and Network 10 have reached a short-term agreement that will keep Network 10 services on air in parts of regional Australia.
WIN Network confirmed the agreement with Network 10 will continue the broadcast of Network 10 channels across Griffith, South Australia’s Riverland and Mount Gambier.
The deal means services will no longer cease on 1 July 2026, as had previously been announced.
The broadcast extension will run until 30 September 2026.
WIN made it clear the agreement is only a temporary pause. The broadcaster said it does not solve the wider structural challenges facing regional broadcasters.
WIN said the short-term agreement provides time to find a path forward. However, it also said the situation reflects the broader commercial challenges facing regional television across Australia.
WIN also reinforced the importance of free-to-air television for regional communities. The broadcaster said short-term commercial deals alone will not secure the future of regional broadcasting.
It said a sustainable long-term solution will need support from both the industry and government.
“We will continue negotiations with Paramount in good faith.”
In a statement, a Network 10 spokesperson said the company had stepped in to ensure viewers in the affected regions were not left without access to its programming.
“Following WIN’s decision to cease broadcasting Network 10 channels in the Riverland, Mount Gambier and Griffith markets, Network 10 will provide a three-month content broadcast extension to ensure viewers in these regions are not left without access to its programming.
“Network 10 remains committed to regional Australian audiences and will continue to explore every opportunity with WIN to keep our content as widely available as possible.”
Network 10 is providing its content to WIN free-of-charge during the extension. It has also agreed to cover WIN’s transmission costs for the Riverland, Mount Gambier and Griffith markets during this period.
Network 10 does not receive advertising revenue or any other revenue from the arrangement.
WIN owns and operates the licence and transmission in these markets. WIN is also responsible for selling advertising.
Network 10 is the content provider. It was not Network 10’s decision to cease the broadcast of its channels in the Riverland, Mount Gambier and Griffith markets.
Network 10 made the offer in good faith to allow time for an alternative solution to be explored. Despite having commercial television broadcasting licence obligations, Network 10 is not eligible to receive funding support for journalism due to foreign ownership.
WIN confirmed it will continue to engage with government on reforms it believes are urgently needed. The broadcaster said those reforms are important to ensure regional Australians continue to be informed, educated and entertained by regional broadcasters.
