Yvie Jones explores the vibrant and community-driven suburb of Thornbury (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country) in Melbourne’s inner north. She kicks off her visit at Rat The Cafe, a charming spot known for its organic produce and sustainable practices.
Next she heads to High Street, where Umberto Espresso Bar serves up comforting Italian classics with a side of warm hospitality. Yvie then steps into cinematic history at the Thornbury Picture House, a beloved independent cinema showcasing a mix of cult classics and new releases. She wraps up her tour at Pizza Elettrica, where New York-style pizzas steal the show.
Three-time Olympian and pole vault gold medallist, Steve Hooker embraces the best of Bayside (Bunurong Country), starting with an adrenaline-fuelled wind-winging session on the beach with the team at Foilsport. After working up an appetite Steve explores the bustling Soul Night Market at Green Point Reserve in Brighton, where food trucks, live music and artisan stalls bring the community together under the summer sky. After that he heads to the Beaumaris Concourse Hotel, a new local favourite serving up hearty pub classics and live entertainment in a great atmosphere.
Meanwhile, Madeline Spark explores the charming town of Birregurra (Gulidjan and Wathaurong Country) nestled in the Otways, an hour and a half’s drive from Melbourne.
She begins at Birre Home, a boutique store brimming with locally made homewares and joyful gifts. She visits the soon-to-open tasting room of the Otways Distillery. Finally, Madeline stops by Birregurra Grocer, a cosy café and larder offering local produce, delicious meals and fine regional wines.
And Shane Delia uncovers some of Keilor East’s (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country) best-kept secrets, starting with a walk through Brimbank Park, a green oasis along the Maribyrnong River. He stops at Lumbar & Co, a charming café known for the home-baked treats and scones.
Next he heads to Centreway and Classe 90 Pizzeria, where Francesco Stella makes woodfired pizzas with perfect puffy crust. Rounding off the day, Shane discovers the Peregrine Social Club, known as “Perry’s”, an inviting lakeside spot set against the dramatic backdrop of a former quarry that serves up top food and drinks and stunning views.
