Postcards on Channel 9 and 9Now S27E20 – The Postcards team welcome guest presenter Bridget Hustwaite to showcase her hometown, this Sunday at 5.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
Bridget puts Ballarat (Wathaurong Country) on display, embracing the cosy joy of winter and celebrating its reputation for gold and the cold. Her visit starts at Sovereign Hill for its 11th annual Winter Wonderlights Festival, which transforms the famous landmark into a wonderland of snow, lights and visits from St Nicholas. Next she tastes an entry in Ballarat’s Best Pie competition, visiting Saigon Allee on Armstrong Street to try their unique creation. Bridget wraps up her tour at The Pottage, the cute pottery studio of local artist Shelby Sherritt, who has been tasked with creating the classic pie dish-inspired trophies for this year’s competition winners.
Livinia Nixon is having the perfect theatre night out in the Melbourne CBD (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country).
After a pre-show dinner at Juni, a sleek and contemporary restaurant on Exhibition Street dishing up bold South-East Asian flavours, it’s time for the main event at the Regent Theatre: the Melbourne-exclusive production of Beetlejuice the Musical. Based on Tim Burton’s 80s cult movie, the show stars Melbourne’s own Eddie Perfect, who also wrote the music and lyrics. Livinia ends up with a post-show debrief at Bar Clara, a hidden cocktail haven on Little Bourke Street that’s been shaking up some of the city’s best drinks for six years.
Shane Delia is also in the Melbourne CBD, exploring Rose Lane, an underrated laneway jam-packed with multicultural food options and outstanding street art. His day starts with a caffeine fix at Commonplace Coffee Brewers, a hole-in-the-wall staple that has served locals for nearly a decade with Toby’s Estate coffee and a solid range of pastries. Then he tries some Indonesian cuisine at Salero Kito Padang, the only restaurant in the city specialising in Padang dishes, famous for the beef rendang cooked for eight hours. Shane finishes up at Lang Baan, a colourful space serving a broad range of tasty Thai dishes with a creative twist, perfect for sharing family-style.
And this week Lauren Phillips explores Middle Park (Bunurong Country), five kilometres south of the CBD, starting with Jack the Geezer, a cosy cafe on Armstrong Street that serves as a second home and creative space for its regular customers.
A few doors down she drops into the brand-new Middle Park European, a neighbourhood bistro and wine bar with a warm atmosphere and a menu of Italian and French-inspired dishes. She finishes up on the green at the historic Middle Park Bowls Club, where punters have been having a roll since 1903.
