A post-shift conversation over a drink about the similarities between medical equipment and distilling apparatus has now turned into Steampunk Distillery, a small-batch Sunshine Coast gin and vodka distillery where grown-on-site native botanicals are turned into award-winning spirits.
Next, viewers slide into the brains behind Evolve Skateboards Australia. After returning to the Gold Coast from a ski holiday in Perisher, Jeff Anning wanted to recreate the feeling of snowboarding on land. But what he didn’t know was that his prototype design – made from baked bean cans and cardboard cutouts! – would somehow evolve into, of all things, an electric skateboard business with a global following.
In a small fishing town two hours north of Rockhampton you’ll find the Plumtree Store at Stanage Bay, which has everything needed to keep the town running. From fishing gear and homewares to endless yarns with Maree and Bevan Haynes, who purchased the shop nearly 30 years ago, Plumtree Store has become a community staple, providing residents with a one-stop shop for necessities and remarkable hospitality.
Finally, My Way meets up with Liv Gilchrist, the young founder of Ocean Ears Noosa. She makes earrings out of upcycled plastic, an idea that grew from a school project she did last year at the age of 14. Liv’s colourful earrings, handcrafted from microplastics washed up along the Sunshine Coast shoreline, are now stocked in local stores throughout the region and available through her online shop.
