Final line-up announcement for the Women in Media Conference – The media’s influence on men’s violence against women; the intersection between press freedom and the law; challenges to media trust; and online safety for women in a world of ever evolving risks are all key talking points of this year’s 2024 National Women in Media Conference as the full schedule for the August 9 event is revealed.
Happening at the Sydney Sofitel Wentworth and formally kicking off with an Oration dinner on the evening of Wednesday 8th July – hosted by renowned investigative journalist Kate McClymont AM and honouring Caroline Jones AO – this year’s Conference has been crafted to cover the topics most relevant to women in the industry.
Discussing these important themes include stalwarts of the media industry, trailblazers across film and TV, and brandmakers, PR and advertising gurus creating the messages we consume everyday.

Women in Media Patron Ita Buttrose AC OBE, will be hosting a chat with Federal Court Justice Michael Lee about the intersection between press freedom and the law; Walkley-Award winning journalist Liz Hayes will be in-conversation with Australian film and feminist icon Rachel Griffiths; actress, director and producer Leah Purcell joins a panel of women to discuss the media’s influence on the national crisis of men’s violence against women; e-Safety Commissioner Julie Inman-Grant will talk about online risks and rewards for women; columnist and author Jane Caro and co-founder of The Daily Aus Zara Seidler discuss career trends and pivots; and much more.
Kym Middleton, General Manager of Women in Media says,
“The Women in Media National Conference is the one annual event with the power to convene such a diversity of highly talented women working across the media sector – from arts and journalism, PR and advertising, digital content creators, leaders in the business and the movers and shakers and policy makers.”
“I have attended this event as an audience member before and can vouch for its inspirational and supportive atmosphere,”
– she said.
“I am now proud to present this program which has been carefully curated by the dedicated Women in Media team to reflect and explore on the issues that our industry has been telling us matter most to them.”
“Any media managers with women on their team must ensure their staff can attend this event. They will gain new skills in AI, communication and storytelling; valuable contacts; and refreshed motivation. It is perfect professional development in an encouraging and supportive environment, as well as being entertaining and a lot of fun!”
