Meanwhile, Soames announces his plan to seize the chair of Forsyte and Co., with Irene at his side. Jolyon Snr vows to cut Jolyon Jnr from his will, and Jolyon Jnr and Louisa struggle financially.
A charity ball raises the stakes
Frances plans a fundraising ball for her charity and enlists Irene’s help. At the ball, Irene secures pledges, and Sir Hugo donates and considers further investment.
However, the night also brings public turning points. Jolyon Jnr renounces Forsyte wealth, and Soames announces his chairmanship to muted applause. Tensions rise over the cyanide process too.
