Miriam and Alan: Lost in Scotland and Beyond on ABC – TV’s ‘golden odd couple’ are back as Miriam Margolyes and Alan Cumming continue their rip-roaring road trip antics across Scotland and beyond.
Miriam, Alan and his dog Lala head to the Hebridean Isle of Skye, a special place where Miriam and her partner Heather first went on holiday over 50 years ago.
Determined to rekindle the memories, Alan takes them on a magical boat trip, where a spectacular pod of dolphins arrive to the party, Miriam finds her sea legs as she scales a ladder, and the whisky, singing and reminiscing flows.
Back on land our pair meet Skye’s resident ‘wand whittler’ and Harry Potter fan Trevor, who gives them a lesson in the ancient carving practice – and Miriam a stunning new walking stick – before blessing their creations in the local Loch Cill. All before Alan gets in cold water with ‘seaweed king’ Jayson as a final pitstop of their Skye odyssey.
Back in their RV to Glasgow, Miriam takes Alan to a truly unique spot – one that has their name written all over it.
A Jewish, LGBTQ+, vegan, anarchist café, just around the corner from where her grandfather lived – and the perfect, emotional farewell to their Scotland as Miriam is treated to the sounds of a Jewish ceremonial horn and Alan sings them out to ballad ‘Caledonia’.
Then next stop California! As Miriam and Alan head across the pond to share another chapter in their lives. With a spanking new RV, Alan transforming into a blonde, and Miriam getting a very close encounter with some incoming waves at the seaside, the pair are raring to dive back in.
But is America ready for them?
