Grand Designs on ABC – As master of a ship in the North Sea that builds wind turbines, Dorran understands duty and responsibility.
So, when he promised his wife Vereuschka and their three young children that they’d build a super modern underground lair of a house on a hill outside Canterbury, failure was not an option.
Initially entrusting a build team to create this new gargantuan one-million-pound home, delays and rising costs mean that Dorran feels forced to take control of the build himself. This turns out to be a huge decision. Sharing his time between the North Sea and the site, Dorran embarks on the most challenging voyage of his life.
An original schedule of ten months soon becomes measured in years, as Dorran battles with engineering, earth moving and electrics on a giant scale. This is an epic project that tests one man to his limits in order to fulfil a promise to his family.
