Grand Designs Australia on ABC and ABC iview S11E1 – To celebrate Grand Designs Australia’s return, new host Anthony Burke is joined on an architectural road trip by Grand Designs icon Kevin McCloud.
Together they pack up a Kombi and go in search of award winning contemporary Australian design that helps solve the problems of livability, affordability and sustainability.
Along the way, Kevin shares hosting insights with Anthony, gained from decades presenting Grand Designs in the UK.
On Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, they visit a modern take on a traditional farmhouse that despite its enormous size, almost disappears into the lush landscape. From there, Kevin tours the Nightingale apartments, a sustainable, affordable housing complex in Brunswick.
Meanwhile, Anthony visits a tiny, light-filled Victorian terrace in Melbourne’s inner-city Fitzroy; a cutting-edge glass pavilion in Tasmania, and a luxe, multi-million-dollar beach “shack” on the Gold Coast.
Anthony and Kevin finish their tour visiting the grandest of tiny homes in Surry Hills, a shining example of how little space we really need.
