Postcards on Channel 9 – Join the Postcards team as they admire one of Melbourne’s most famous historical treasures, at 5.30pm Sunday on Channel 9 and 9Now.
This week Todd Woodbridge is in the city touring The Block Arcade (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country), fondly known as the architectural jewel in Melbourne’s crown. The Tea Rooms 1892, in the original Hopetoun Tea Rooms, is one experience you simply can’t miss. Todd visits a wide range of unique and renowned retailers all under the one spectacular roof, including Truefitt & Hill, Mr Wares, French Jewel Box and many more.
Kris Smith is in Aberfeldie (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country) with his dog and best mate Louis, exploring the abundance of parks like the Afton Street Conservation Reserve. Close by is the Northern Obedience Dog Club, the second oldest obedience club in Victoria, where he tries to teach Louis some new tricks. Kris makes a coffee stop in Aberfeldie Salumeria, where they bring a taste of southern Italy to Aberfeldie with a breakfast and lunch menu featuring house-cooked Italian classics.
Under an hour from Melbourne’s CBD, we find Brodie Harper in West Gippsland (Boonwurrung and Kurnai Country), visiting Fankhauser Apples in Drouin, renowned for their fresh produce.
Brodie’s next stop is Garfield Fresh Harvest, a family-owned grocer that’s been operating since the 1980s. This farm gate store is stocked with produce grown from their surrounding property as possible. Feeling peckish, Brodie stops for a bite at Biddy Martha’s Cafe.
Meanwhile, Madeline Spark takes a road trip to Castlemaine (Dja Dja Wurrung Country) to taste some local cuisine and explore the new art gallery inside the Old Castlemaine Gaol. Famous for its indigenous history and goldfields, the region is also an artists’ haven. The gaol houses the Bromley Collection Museum, the extensive collection of one of Australia’s most renowned artistic duos, David and Yuge Bromley.
It complements another famous venue, the Theatre Royal. Madeline also finds the town’s newest brewery bar, Love Shack Brewing Co, and pops by Origini Cafe, a popular coffee spot that has now become more restaurant than cafe, with a menu of Italian classics.
