Extraordinary Escapes on ABC TV – National treasure and ultimate travel companion, Sandi Toksvig explores Wales from the Pembrokeshire Coast in the West to the English Border in the East.
Joining her is fellow funny girl, actor, writer, and star of After Life and Game Face, Roisin Conaty. Along the way kites are flown and crashed, flowers artfully arranged, and goats milked, successfully by Sandi, and less so by Roisin.
Perched above the Nevern Estuary, with views to die for, the award-winning ‘Seren Mor’ is Sandi’s first of three retreats to share with Roisin. The Camden born comic is as blown away by the contemporary architecture as she is by the profusion of dogs to spot and admire on the beach!
Electric bikes carry a giddy Sandi and Roisin to Powys and the sleepy quiet of ‘Hergest Lee Cabin’ and ‘Lean-to’ – two stylish self-built retreats, full of quirky design and hip mid-century furnishing and accessories.
As a fitting finale, the pair top off their escape in ‘Moor Tower’, a beautifully refurbished folly by Hay on Wye, just a mile from the Welsh border. The 200 year-old building stands around 18 meters tall and offers views of the Black Mountains, The Brecon Beacons and the surrounding Wye Valley.
