The Dead Can’t Sue launches as new ABC history podcast – The ABC has launched The Dead Can’t Sue, a new history podcast that digs into the stranger, sharper and more scandalous corners of Australian history.
Available now, the weekly podcast is hosted by historians Alecia Simmonds and Leigh Boucher. Together, they explore the lives of memorable Australians from the past, including rebels, ruffians, convicts, conmen, military heroes, martyrs, celebrities and scoundrels.
The series takes a witty approach to history. It promises stories filled with intrigue, humour and unexpected details about some of the nation’s most fascinating figures.
Across the podcast, Simmonds and Boucher look beyond traditional historical accounts. They also ask the kinds of questions that bring these figures to life for modern listeners.
Among the topics raised are whether Bennelong was an unlikely sartorialist, whether Matthew Flinders had a more-than-friendly relationship with navy surgeon George Bass, and why Australians remain so fascinated by criminals such as Tilly Devine.
Hosts Alecia Simmonds and Leigh Boucher said the podcast gave them the chance to explore figures who helped shape Australia’s national story.
