Four Corners on ABC and ABC iview S65E14 Caught in the Crackdown – In his second term as US President, Donald Trump promised “millions and millions” of deportations – and the crackdown is already visible on the streets of some American cities.
Next week on Four Corners, Frontline and ProPublica investigate the Trump administration’s pursuit of immigration, where armed federal agents have carried out raids and arrests, often in front of cameras and in the middle of growing protest.
The death of 37-year-old activist Renee Nicole Good, shot by ICE agents during an encounter in Minneapolis, became a national flashpoint. Caught in the Crackdown explores what happened next.
The documentary examines the claims made by the Trump administration about who is being targeted in the crackdown, and what happens when the arrests end up being tested in court.
In case after case, charges are reduced, dropped or never filed – sometimes after video and witness accounts undermine the original allegations.
It also looks at how enforcement has been marketed, with politicians, officials and pro-Trump media figures promoting the raids, while those on the frontlines are left frightened and confused.
With interviews from former officials, legal experts and people on the ground, Caught in the Crackdown asks what this change in enforcement means for civil liberties and the communities who are living through it.
