ABC International and NIFFA announce multi-year partnership – ABC International and the National Indian Film Festival of Australia have signed a memorandum of understanding for a new multi-year partnership.
The partnership will see ABC International become a media partner of NIFFA for its 2027 festival and future editions, supporting the festival through ABC Australia and ABC Asia.
For Australian screen audiences, the agreement gives Indian and Indian-Australian storytelling a wider regional pathway. It also connects one of Australia’s growing film-festival platforms with ABC International’s television and digital reach across Asia and the Pacific.
What The Partnership Covers
Under the memorandum of understanding, NIFFA will provide ABC International with access to its festival program, filmmakers and talent. ABC International will work to extend the reach of selected festival stories and conversations to audiences across the region.
The agreement also establishes a framework for future content opportunities. That includes consideration of selected NIFFA films and documentaries for ABC International platforms, alongside the development of Indian-Australian content relevant to Indian and South Asian audiences.
ABC International and NIFFA will also explore the creation of an ABC-associated award for future editions of the festival.
ABC International And NIFFA
ABC International operates the ABC Australia television service and ABC Asia digital platforms. Its work focuses on connecting Australian stories with international audiences, particularly across the Indo-Pacific.
NIFFA, the National Indian Film Festival of Australia, showcases Indian cinema and Indian-Australian screen culture. The partnership gives the festival a broader media platform as planning begins for its 2027 edition.
ABC International Head Claire M. Gorman said the agreement reflects the organisation’s interest in strengthening cultural connections through screen storytelling. NIFFA Festival Director Anupam Sharma said the partnership would help bring Indian and Indian-Australian stories to broader audiences.
The partnership has been announced ahead of NIFFA’s next festival cycle, with both organisations expected to work through future programming and content opportunities.
