SAS: AUS v ENG on Channel 7 S6E4 – The course tightens its grip on a punishing day that claims multiple recruits. It begins with a relentless journey to task: a gruelling ascent of 27 flights of stairs to the top of the dam.
But it’s a careless slip of the tongue that leads to one recruit being pushed to breaking point and handing back their armband. There’s no time to process the loss. A rapid extraction task awaits, dangling recruits 45 metres above the dam’s churning waters.
They must rappel down the face of the structure before unclipping and free-falling the final eight metres into the depths below. Disorientated and gasping, they still face a brutal 40-metre swim to the extraction point—on a strict three-minute countdown.
The water becomes a graveyard of failed attempts as the clock mercilessly ticks on. Back at base, the psychological pressure intensifies.
One recruit can’t hold their nerve while another decides they cannot take another minute of the course’s demands. The cracks are widening. Then comes a mission with a moral dilemma. Sent into a war-torn village to rescue a captured comrade under fire, the recruits face a split-second decision: push on to the objective or stop to aid their comrade’s injured interpreter.
Only those who choose compassion under chaos pass. As dusk settles over the parade square, the exodus continues. A fourth recruit walks out for good, while another breaks down in the medic room – further proof that on this course, nobody escapes unscathed.
