Steve Titmus speaks on daughter Ariarne’s shock retirement – 7NEWS Sport Presenter Steve Titmus has just spoken exclusively about his daughter Ariarne’s shock decision to retire from competitive swimming.
He reveals what her next move will be, and shares insight into how Ariarne is feeling as she steps away from the sport after a decorated career.
7NEWS SPORT PRESENTER, STEVE TITMUS:
- “She’s achieved everything she wanted to achieve. As a young seven-year-old girl, you know, she dreamed one day of just going to the Olympic Games. She went there, let alone to win four Olympic gold medals, and that’s what she’s actually done.”
- “She’s achieved way beyond what she ever dreamed of doing. And she’s decided that, you know, that’s enough for her, and she wants to chase other things in her life.”
- “To go on and win that [the race against Ledecky in Tokyo]… those two moments will sit with us as really things that, as a family, you know, we feel quite humbled and quite fortunate that we’ve had a daughter who’s been able to achieve such greatness.”
- “She’d love to give back to the sport. What form that takes, we’ll have to wait and see. So I’m sure that in some way, shape or form, she’s probably going to be involved with swimming.”
- “She’s also had a taste of the corporate world. She’s had a taste of broadcasting, doing some work here with Seven as well. So who knows what is ahead for her, but all we know is that we’re so much looking forward to what the next chapter brings.”
