The Cold Chisel frontman was rushed to hospital in late 2023 with pneumonia, only to discover a life-threatening infection had attacked his heart. It meant there was only one option: emergency open heart surgery.
Jimmy Barnes said:
“I literally turned to Jane and said, ‘I think this might be it. I think it might have caught me finally’.”
Barnes, 69, reflects on the terrifying ordeal with 7NEWS Chief Reporter Chris Reason, before an emotional performance in front of the miracle medical team credited for saving his life. The Australian rock legend admitting he will “keep doing it until he drops” – touring at the same frenzied pace as before, saying music keeps him alive.
