Tonight | Better Homes and Gardens on Seven and 7plus: Giaan Rooney’s Farm Life – Better Homes and Gardens brings a personal story to Seven and 7plus, as Johanna Griggs catches up with three-time Olympic medallist Giaan Rooney.
Giaan started her swimming career when she was just 11 years old. These days, however, life looks very different for the former champion swimmer.
Giaan, her husband Sam and their two children now live in the Byron Hinterland on a stunning macadamia farm. It is a long way from life in the swimming pool. As a result, this episode gives viewers a warm look at her family’s new chapter.
Johanna and Giaan are longtime friends and colleagues. Before they begin work on Seven’s coverage of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, they meet for a tour of Giaan’s home.
The visit explores the couple’s farmhouse renovation, family life and what it is really like to run a macadamia farm.
Winter food and home inspiration
Clarissa also shares a winter dessert with spiced ginger pears.
She poaches in-season pears with cinnamon, star anise, cloves, cardamom, ginger and honey. The dish can be served with crème fraiche for dessert or with yoghurt and oats for breakfast.
Meanwhile, Juliet creates a café-style coffee station for the home.
Using a basic flatpack cabinet and off-the-shelf timber, she shows how renters and homeowners can create a stylish coffee space without spending too much money.
Gardens, pets and winter colour
Melissa explores The Wildplace Children’s Garden, which was designed for the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show.
The garden is full of eco-friendly ideas that encourage curiosity, imaginative play and learning. It also shows how outdoor spaces can be designed for children and adults to enjoy together.
Dr Harry then looks at the power of a dog’s nose.
He meets eight-year-old Ketsia, who loves sniffing out golf balls. He also learns more about scent work, a dog sport built around tracking smells.
Graham rounds out the episode with winter gardening ideas. He visits a vibrant nursery to showcase plants that can keep gardens full of colour during the colder months.
