Forgotten Island final trailer lands ahead of September cinema release – Universal Pictures has released the final trailer for DreamWorks Animation’s Forgotten Island, which arrives in Australian cinemas on 17 September.
The original animated film follows lifelong friends Jo and Raissa, who are preparing to take separate paths after high school. On their last night together, they discover a portal to Nakali, a magical island shaped by the stories they heard from their Filipino families.
With their memories of the friendship becoming the price of returning home, the pair must find a way back before they forget each other. The final trailer gives audiences a fresh look at the colourful world of Nakali and the creatures that await them.

H.E.R. and Liza Soberano lead the voice cast as Jo and Raissa, with Dave Franco as the weredog Raww. Their adventure brings them face-to-face with The Dreaded Manananggal, voiced by Lea Salonga, as they navigate Nakali with a small but determined group of new allies.
The film is written and directed by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, with Mark Swift producing. Crawford and Swift previously worked together on Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, while the wider voice cast includes Jenny Slate, Manny Jacinto, Dolly de Leon, Jo Koy and Ronny Chieng.
DreamWorks Animation’s latest original feature places friendship at the centre of its fantasy adventure, pairing a new mythology-inspired setting with the kind of broad family entertainment the studio is known for. Its mix of magical creatures, music and a coming-of-age friendship story gives the film a distinct point of difference within the studio’s upcoming cinema slate.
Universal’s release also highlights the creative partnership behind the film. Crawford and Mercado share writing and directing duties, while Swift’s producing credit reunites key members of the team responsible for the acclaimed Puss in Boots sequel.
