Anthony Bourdain Biopic TONY Lands August Cinema Release in Australia — A24 has unveiled the Australian and New Zealand release date for TONY, the highly anticipated biopic chronicling the early life of celebrated chef, author and television icon Anthony Bourdain.
Directed by BlackBerry filmmaker Matt Johnson, TONY will open in Australian and New Zealand cinemas on 20 August 2026.
The film stars Dominic Sessa (The Holdovers) as a 19-year-old Anthony Bourdain and tells the story of a transformative summer that helped shape one of the most influential figures in modern food and travel culture.
Set in Provincetown in 1975, the film follows a young Bourdain as he leaves New Jersey behind and stumbles into the chaotic world of a restaurant kitchen. There, he finds himself surrounded by an unconventional group of cooks, pirates and outsiders who introduce him to a life he never expected.
According to the official synopsis, the summer sets Bourdain on a path that would eventually see him become a world-renowned chef, bestselling author and beloved television personality.
An All-Star Cast
Alongside Dominic Sessa, TONY boasts an impressive supporting cast including Emilia Jones (CODA), Dagmara Domińczyk (Succession), Rich Sommer (Mad Men), Stavros Halkias (Bugonia), Leo Woodall (Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy) and Antonio Banderas (Babygirl).
The screenplay comes from Matt Johnson, Matthew Miller, Todd Bartels and Lou Howe, with Johnson also producing alongside Tim White, Trevor White and Matthew Miller.

Billed with the tagline, “Before Bourdain, there was Tony”, the film promises to explore the formative years of a man who would go on to redefine food and travel storytelling through programs such as No Reservations and Parts Unknown.
