Revealed: How To Poison A Planet on Stan wins Walkley award – Stan, Australia’s unrivalled home of original productions, celebrates the Stan Original Documentary Revealed: How To Poison A Planet Walkley Documentary Award win announced last night in Sydney at the 69th Walkley Awards for Excellence in Journalism. Revealed: How To Poison A Planet is now streaming, only on Stan.

Since its premiere on Stan in April, Revealed: How To Poison A Planet has since garnered world wide attention. The documentary, Carrie Fellner and The Sydney Morning Herald’s ongoing vigorous reporting on the issue, has led to the announcement of a parliamentary inquiry into PFAS in Australia in August this year chaired by Senator Lidia Thorpe. Revealed: How To Poison A Planet screened at the French Senate hosted by the Senator for Paris and was attended by representatives of the French Human Rights League and also screened at the Australian Federal Parliament in July hosted by Senator David Pocock.

From the heart of New York City and the largest litigation involving drinking water in American history, to a small Australian Aboriginal community who take on their own David and Goliath battle, Revealed: How To Poison A Planet investigates how the use of a product as seemingly harmless as firefighting foam, has resulted in the contamination of communities all over the world. Since the 1950s, these toxic “forever chemicals” have spread to every corner of the globe and can now be found in the blood of 98% of the world’s population and are used in everyday household items from cookware, to clothing and makeup.

Carrie Fellner interviews Uncle Jack Hampton from Wreck Bay

On home soil, Revealed: How To Poison A Planet with iKandy Films (Katrina McGowan, Janine Hosking and Mat Cornwell), in collaboration with The Sydney Morning Herald journalist Carrie Fellner is an investigation into global PFAS contamination, featuring the Wreck Bay Aboriginal community located on the pristine coastline of Jervis Bay on the south coast of NSW.

Carrie and the documentary team unearthed fresh revelations about the contamination as the Wreck Bay Aboriginal community faces a devastating onslaught of illness including cancer and heart disease, many of which have been linked in overseas studies to PFAS exposure.

Revealed: How To Poison A Planet also features award-winning actor and environmental activist Mark Ruffalo, and a formidable US legal team including environmental lawyers Rob Bilott and Ned McWilliams and trial lawyers Gary Douglas and Rebecca Newman who prepare to take on a global chemical company and ready to reveal explosive evidence, some of which has been suppressed for decades.

Stan Chief Content Officer, Cailah Scobie said:

“The Stan Originals team congratulates the extraordinary filmmakers, Janine Hosking, Katrina McGowan and Mat Cornwell and journalist Carrie Fellner on winning the Walkley Documentary Award. The film is a powerful investigation and global story into ‘forever chemicals’ which brings to light the impact on a local First Nations community as well as the extraordinary work from the US legal teams. This Award is testament to Stan Originals commitment to commissioning the very best investigative films under the Revealed banner and collaborating across the Nine group (Sydney Morning Herald).”

Revealed: How To Poison A Planet Director, Katrina McGowan said:

This film was made possible by the incredible team that worked so hard to bring this story to the world as well as the ongoing support and collaboration with Stan, The Sydney Morning Herald and the Nine group. Janine, Mat and I were privileged to work with so many talented and inspiring people both on and off camera and we are proud to have been able to use this film to provide a voice for those suffering from this global contamination crisis.

Revealed: How To Poison A Planet, is an iKandy Films production, directed by Katrina McGowan and produced by Janine Hosking, Katrina McGowan and Mat Cornwell in association with Shark Island Foundation. Principal production funding from Screen Australia with support from Shark Island Foundation and Screen NSW. Executive produced by Cailah Scobie and Amanda Duthie for Stan.

Alongside Revealed: How to Poison a Planet winning the Walkley Documentary Award last night, investigative journalist Nick McKenzie won journalism’s biggest prize – the Gold Walkley. One of Australia’s most decorated investigative journalists, Nick McKenzie leads multiple Stan Original Documentaries, including Revealed: Amongst Us – Neo Nazi Australia, Revealed: Trafficked, Revealed: Ben Roberts-Smith Truth on Trial and Revealed: Bribe, Inc.

Stan Chief Content Officer, Cailah Scobie said:

“We recognise the extraordinary work of Walkley Gold Award winner Nick McKenzie – with the nomination for Ben Roberts-Smith in the same category with Chris Masters and producer/director Dora Weekley on their feature documentary, a collaboration with 60 Minutes. Nick’s other work with Stan Originals Revealed strand includes: Amongst Us: Neo Nazi Australia, Trafficked and Bribe, Inc.“

Revealed: Ben Roberts-Smith Truth On Trial was created in collaboration with 60 Minutes, The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald and is directed and produced by Dora Weekley for Stan and Stan Executive Producers are Cailah Scobie and Amanda Duthie.
