Critically acclaimed dark comedy

United States of Tara (Seasons 1-3)
Box Set
Saturday, 1 December on SBS On Demand (30 episodes)
United States of Tara was a groundbreaking series starring Emmy Award-winner, and Australia’s own, Toni Collette. Created by Diablo Cody, United States of Tara explores mental health, family, and relationships — always striking the right balance between the comedic and the genuinely touching.
Suburban wife and mother Tara Gregson (Toni Collette) juggles her family and career while experiencing the everyday challenges of Dissociative Identity Disorder. It’s never a dull moment in the Gregson household as her various identities may appear on any given day – and range from “T” – a flirtatious and spunky teenager to “Buck,” a gun-loving male alter – all while her supportive husband Max (John Corbett) and their two teenaged children, Kate (Brie Larson) and Marshall (Keir Gilchrist), try to lead as much of a “normal” life as possible. The cast also includes Rosemarie DeWitt as Charmaine, and Patton Oswalt as Neil.
The series is created by Diablo Cody (Juno), with Executive Producers Steven Spielberg, Alexa Junge (season 1), Joey Soloway (Season 2–3), Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, and Craig Zisk. Notable directors include Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya, Cruella) and Mark Mylod (Succession, The Menu), Penny Marshall (Big, A League of Their Own), Jamie Babbit (But I’m A Cheerleader, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Adam Bernstein (Fargo Season 1)
United States of Tara (Seasons1-3) will be available to stream on SBS On Demand in English with English subtitles.
Coming-of-age Comedy

Raised By Refugees (Seasons 1-2)
Season 2 Australian Premiere Box Set Drop
Saturday, 1 December on SBS On Demand (12 episodes)
Raised by Refugees, written and created by comedian Pax Assadi, is a coming-of-age comedy with authenticity and humour in spades.
It’s the new millennium in Auckland City, and Pax Assadi (Kenus Binu) is your typical 12-year-old who’s obsessed with hip hop, basketball, girls, and Eddie Murphy. His parents (Pax Assadi and Kalyani Nagarajan) came to NZ in the late ’80s as refugees and all they want him to do is study hard and eventually become a doctor. All Pax wants to do is fit in and feel accepted, but with 9/11 a very fresh memory, that’s easier said than done for a part-Pakistani part-Iranian kid.
This show revolves around Pax juggling two separate lives and the comedy that ensues when those two lives collide. He’s constantly making sure he’s pleasing his parents, while at the same time doing the things that gain him social capital with the kids at school.
Raised by Refugees (Seasons 1-2) will be available to stream on SBS On Demand in English, Farsi and Punjabi with English subtitles.

Landmark documentary series

Ken Burns’ The American Revolution
Australian Premiere Box Set Drop
Sunday, 7 December 2025 on SBS On Demand (6 episodes)
Directed by Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein and David Schmidt, this landmark series examines how America’s founding turned the world upside-down. The American Revolution was at once a war for independence, a war of conquest, a civil war, and a world war, fought by neighbours on American farms and between global powers an ocean or more away.
It impacted millions from Vermont’s Green Mountains to the swamps of South Carolina, from Indian Country to the Iberian Peninsula. In defeating the British Empire and giving birth to a new nation, the American Revolution turned the world upside- down. Thirteen colonies on the Atlantic Coast united in rebellion, won their independence, and established a republic.
Voiced by an all-star cast including Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Damian Lewis, Samuel L. Jackson, Josh Hutcherson and Morgan Freeman – The American Revolution brings to life the definitive story of how a fight for representation became the revolution that changed the world.
The American Revolution will be available to stream on SBS On Demand, with episodes airing weekly on SBS, Sundays at 8.30pm.
