Critically acclaimed dark comedy

United States of Tara (Seasons 1-3)

Box Set

Saturday, 1 December on SBS On Demand (30 episodes)

United States of Tara was a groundbreaking series starring Emmy Award-winner, and Australia’s own, Toni Collette. Created by Diablo Cody, United States of Tara explores mental health, family, and relationships — always striking the right balance between the comedic and the genuinely touching.

Suburban wife and mother Tara Gregson (Toni Collette) juggles her family and career while experiencing the everyday challenges of Dissociative Identity Disorder. It’s never a dull moment in the Gregson household as her various identities may appear on any given day – and range from “T” – a flirtatious and spunky teenager to “Buck,” a gun-loving male alter – all while her supportive husband Max (John Corbett) and their two teenaged children, Kate (Brie Larson) and Marshall (Keir Gilchrist), try to lead as much of a “normal” life as possible. The cast also includes Rosemarie DeWitt as Charmaine, and Patton Oswalt as Neil.

The series is created by Diablo Cody (Juno), with Executive Producers Steven Spielberg, Alexa Junge (season 1), Joey Soloway (Season 2–3), Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, and Craig Zisk. Notable directors include Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya, Cruella) and Mark Mylod (Succession, The Menu), Penny Marshall (Big, A League of Their Own), Jamie Babbit (But I’m A Cheerleader, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Adam Bernstein (Fargo Season 1)

United States of Tara (Seasons1-3) will be available to stream on SBS On Demand in English with English subtitles.

Coming-of-age Comedy
December 2025 on SBS on Demand
Raised By Refugees (Seasons 1-2)

Season 2 Australian Premiere Box Set Drop

Saturday, 1 December on SBS On Demand (12 episodes)

Raised by Refugees, written and created by comedian Pax Assadi, is a coming-of-age comedy with authenticity and humour in spades.

It’s the new millennium in Auckland City, and Pax Assadi (Kenus Binu) is your typical 12-year-old who’s obsessed with hip hop, basketball, girls, and Eddie Murphy. His parents (Pax Assadi and Kalyani Nagarajan) came to NZ in the late ’80s as refugees and all they want him to do is study hard and eventually become a doctor. All Pax wants to do is fit in and feel accepted, but with 9/11 a very fresh memory, that’s easier said than done for a part-Pakistani part-Iranian kid.

This show revolves around Pax juggling two separate lives and the comedy that ensues when those two lives collide. He’s constantly making sure he’s pleasing his parents, while at the same time doing the things that gain him social capital with the kids at school.

Raised by Refugees (Seasons 1-2) will be available to stream on SBS On Demand in English, Farsi and Punjabi with English subtitles.

Ken Burns’ The American Revolution

Australian Premiere Box Set Drop

Sunday, 7 December 2025 on SBS On Demand (6 episodes)

Directed by Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein and David Schmidt, this landmark series examines how America’s founding turned the world upside-down. The American Revolution was at once a war for independence, a war of conquest, a civil war, and a world war, fought by neighbours on American farms and between global powers an ocean or more away.

It impacted millions from Vermont’s Green Mountains to the swamps of South Carolina, from Indian Country to the Iberian Peninsula. In defeating the British Empire and giving birth to a new nation, the American Revolution turned the world upside- down. Thirteen colonies on the Atlantic Coast united in rebellion, won their independence, and established a republic.

Voiced by an all-star cast including Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Damian Lewis, Samuel L. Jackson, Josh Hutcherson and Morgan Freeman – The American Revolution brings to life the definitive story of how a fight for representation became the revolution that changed the world.

The American Revolution will be available to stream on SBS On Demand, with episodes airing weekly on SBS, Sundays at 8.30pm.

The great Irvine Welsh—the colossus of Scottish fiction—turns his attention to a television drama series with a story adapted from his best-selling novel. As with his masterpiece Trainspotting, the streets of Edinburgh are the setting for Irvine Welsh’s Crime—the story of a tormented detective in a city on the edge of the abyss.

International star Dougray Scott leads a stellar cast as Detective Inspector Ray Lennox, a man whose clear sight is as much a blessing as it is a curse. Prepare to enter this dangerous world and the troubled mind of Ray Lennox—a man engaged in his own disturbing battle, all while undertaking serious crime investigations in the glaring light of the public arena.

Joining Dougray Scott (Mission: Impossible 2, My Week with Marilyn, Batwoman) in his International Emmy and BAFTA Scotland award-winning role in Season 1 is Joanna Vanderham (Warrior, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) as DS Amanda Drummond, Angela Griffin (Harlots, White Lines) as Trudi Lowe, Ken Stott (The Dig, Fortitude) as Chief Superintendent Bob Toal, Jamie Sives (Guilt, Too Close) as DI Dougie Gillman, David Elliot (Kajaki) as DI Tommy Stark, Brian McCardie (Murphy’s Law) as DS Norrie Erskine, and Rebecca Root (The Queen’s Gambit) as Lauren Fairchild.

Crime (Season 2) will be available to stream weekly on SBS On Demand from 10 December, with episodes airing weekly on SBS, Wednesdays at 9.30pm. Crime (Season 1) available as a box set on SBS On Demand from 10 December.

The Count of Monte Cristo

Australian Premiere Box Set Drop*

Saturday, 13 December 2025 on SBS On Demand (8 episodes)

The Count of Monte Cristo receives a luscious retelling care of Billie August (Smilla’s Sense of Snow, Les Misérables). Alexandre Dumas’ classic is reimagined with an international cast including Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games, Peaky Blinders, Daisy Jones and the Six) and Jeremy Irons (The Mission, Dead Ringers).

Having just been promoted to captain on the eve of his wedding to the love of his life, Edmond Dantes’ (Claflin) future is suddenly snatched away by three selfish men, each intent on furthering his own cause. Edmond is wrongly accused of being a Bonapartist and is incarcerated in the island prison of the Castle d’If.

Fifteen despairing years pass by before Edmond encounters the Abbe Faria (Irons), a fellow inmate and learned man who imparts his vast knowledge to the young man, including the whereabouts of a hidden treasure.

Edmond finally escapes, finds the treasure and transforms into the extremely wealthy and mysterious Count of Monte Cristo. Still mourning the loss of his one true love, Monte Cristo embarks on his mission to wreak sublime revenge on the three men who, with little thought, mercilessly betrayed him twenty years earlier.

Count of Monte Cristo will be available to stream as a box set on SBS On Demand on 11 December and will launch with a double episode on SBS Viceland, Saturday, 13 December at 8.30pm, followed by single episodes nightly until Friday, 19 December.
