She’s creepy, kooky, a little spooky, and we’re OBSESSED.

WEDNESDAY has stolen our hearts and taken the number 1 spot on Netflix’s Top 10 chart!

The saying goes “Nothing charms like a pale, deadpan, braid-wearing outsider”. While it may not have caught on yet, it should as our global obsession with Wednesday Addams in Netflix’s WEDNESDAY proves it’s 100% correct. The Tim Burton-directed WEDNESDAY has captured (and nailed gun) our hearts, with Netflix revealing it’s come in at number 1 in 93 countries on the Netflix TV Series Top 10 chart. A whopping 341,230,000 hours of WEDNESDAY have been viewed within the first five days since its global premiere on November 23.

But it’s not just global audiences going rabid over WEDNESDAY, so are Aussies. WEDNESDAY has claimed the top spot of Netflix Australia’s TV Series Top 10 chart. As a nation, we’ve really taken to the stubborn, single-minded, and obsessive Wednesday.

Our collective love for WEDNESDAY is even creeping its way onto social media with the hashtag #WEDNESDAY receiving 7 billion views on TikTok to date. Looks like we’ve been particularly enchanted by Wednesday Addam’s iconic dance to punk rock band The Cramp’s ‘Goo Goo Muck’. The scene is having its own viral moment with fans taking to TikTok to recreate the now iconic choreography, the hashtag #WednesdayDance has a total of 150.3 million views on the app with plenty more to come!

If you’re one of the many who contributed to the 341,230,000 hours of WEDNESDAY watched so far and need to bury yourself in even more Wednesday Addams’ goodness, we have plenty of mysterious fun facts and behind-the-scenes stories to whet your appetite!

The mesmerising Jenna Ortega version of Wednesday Addams

To prepare for her role as Wednesday, Jenna Ortega took numerous lessons whether it was for cello, fencing, archery, and German. She also went canoeing, and worked hard to nail down Wednesday’s physicality. She would walk or run as Wednesday in her everyday life, trying out different postures and stances so that she looked certain and assertive. This attentive effort and dedication has made sure  that she embraces this iconic character in ways you have never seen and brings The Addams Family to a whole new generation. To top off her portrayal of Wednesday, Jenna doesn’t blink throughout the whole series – talk about commitment!

Things that you don’t know about Thing

It’s the little things that count! But the thing is that giving a half-dead life to Thing wasn’t little or easy in any way. Thing is played by Victor Dorobantu, who is a magician by trade, and his appearance in WEDNESDAY is his first acting role. For his scenes as Thing, Dorobantu spent three hours preparing and getting into the blue suit he had to wear whenever Thing was on camera so the VFX team could visually edit him out in post-production. Dorobantu often had to have his body positioned in unusual places on set to get the right shot – upside down, under floors, behind walls, and even inside walls!

Immersive production value

Some of the endless outstanding contributions that have made WEDNESDAYsuch a catch among fans include the production excellence and delicacy. The production design team built the entire town of Jericho on location in Romania, which was inspired by the idea of an archetypal New England town. There are minimal CGI enhancements, everything was practically built, including the steeple on the church. The production design team also worked with architecture and sculpting students in Bucharest, and other local sculptors and artists, to boost the core team and help meet all the various design needs across the show. Tim Burton could often be found in the sculptors’ workshop. The show was shot across a whopping 70 locations and six sound stages. Interestingly, The Addams Family car was custom built from the parts of two separate cars, and is slanted down on the driver’s side to make Lurch appear larger.

Let’s dive deep into the mysterious supernatural world together in WEDNESDAY– now streaming only on Netflix
