Breakers on Netflix shot in WA – The ocean is calling — are you ready to answer? That’s the question posed by Breakers, a new Netflix series starring Antony Starr as ‘Brando’ (The Boys, Banshee, The Covenant, G20). The drama, which hails from writer Pete Jackson (The Death of Bunny Munro, Somewhere Boy), follows two backpackers who are sucked into what seems to be a perfect surfing community.
The series is produced by BBC Studios’ Clerkenwell Films (Baby Reindeer, The End of the F***ing World) in partnership with BBC Studios Productions Australia.
Breakers is the first Netflix series to shoot in Western Australia, and is proudly supported by Screenwest and the WA Government through the Western Australian Production Attraction Incentive.
“Screenwest is delighted to welcome Netflix to Western Australia for the first time. Breakers provides a
fantastic opportunity for Western Australian Heads of Department, crew and cast to work on a prestige series and continue developing their careers right here in our South West. We look forward to seeing the series brought to life over the coming months,”
– said Rikki Lea Bestall, Screenwest CEO.
Creative Industries Minister Simone McGurk also shared some comments on the upcoming series:
“Attracting a production of this scale to Western Australia is a very exciting opportunity for the local screen industry. As the biggest series to be filmed in Western Australia, the project is estimated to inject more than $19 million into the WA economy and directly employ more than 100 Western Australians. Production kicking off for a project of this scale on the back of Perth Film Studios reaching completion last week shows our screen industry is going from strength to strength. This is all part of the Cook Government’s vision of growing WA’s film industry to help diversify the economy, create local jobs and unlock new opportunities for talent and innovation in Western Australia.”
