Apex on Netflix begins filming in Sydney – Netflix film Apex will call NSW home, with the production set to create more than 460 local jobs and contribute an estimated $56.5 million in expenditure to the state’s economy.
This major international production – starring Charlize Theron (Monster, the upcoming The Old Guard 2), Taron Egerton (Carry-On, Kingsman: The Secret Service) and Eric Bana (Hulk, the upcoming Untamed); directed by Baltasar Kormákur – will be filmed in Sydney and Western Sydney. Production of the film, in which a grieving woman seeks solace in the wilderness, only to find herself ensnared in a deadly game of cat and mouse with a serial killer, commences today.
Theron will produce the project along with Dawn Olmstead, Beth Kono and AJ Dix via their newly launched media company, Secret Menu; as will Kormákur through his RVK productions; Ian Bryce through his Ian Bryce Productions; and Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and David Ready via Chernin Entertainment.
Securing the thriller, written by Jeremy Robbins, is a significant win for the NSW screen industry and the state’s broader economy, with employment opportunities for local cast and crew, along with hospitality, catering, security and other on-set operations.
The Apex production team will work with Screen Careers to engage trainees to provide them with hands-on experience, mentorship, and the chance to work on a world-class production. Each trainee will be paired with a dedicated supervisor within their department, with additional oversight provided by Heads of Department to ensure a tailored learning experience and professional guidance throughout the production.
