It was also announced that acclaimed HBO Original comedy series The Chair Company and I Love LA have been renewed for second seasons.  The HBO Original drama series Task, starring Emmy® winner Mark Ruffalo, has been renewed for a second season.

The HBO Original half-hour drama series A Knights of the Seven Kingdoms has been renewed for a second season, ahead of the first season debut in 2026 on Monday 19 January, only on HBO Max. The second season will debut in 2027.

The third season of the HBO Original drama series House of the Dragon will debut in winter 2026. Ahead of its return, HBO has renewed the series for a fourth season, debuting in 2028.

Francesca Orsi, EVP, HBO Programming, Head of HBO Drama Series and Films, quote:

“We are thrilled to be able to deliver new seasons of these two series for the next three years, for the legion of fans of the Game of Thrones universe. Together, House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms reveal just how expansive and richly imagined George R. R. Martin’s universe continues to be. In January, I think audiences will be delighted by the inspiring underdog tale of Dunk and Egg that George and Ira Parker have so beautifully captured. And this Summer [Southern Hemisphere winter], House of the Dragon is set to ignite once again with some of its most epic battles yet.”

Co-Creator/Executive Producer, George R. R. Martin; Co-Creator/Showrunner/Executive Producer, Ira Parker. Executive Producers, Sarah Bradshaw, Owen Harris, Ryan Condal and Vince Gerardis. Based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” the series, set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, tells the story of House Targaryen. Season three cast includes Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, Matthew Needham, James Norton, Tom Bennett, Kieran Bew, Kurt Egyiawan, Freddie Fox, Clinton Liberty, Gayle Rankin, and Abubakar Salim. Co-Creator/Showrunner/Executive Producer, Ryan Condal; Co-Creator/Executive Producer, George R.R. HBO Original comedy series The Chair Company and I Love LA have been renewed for second seasons.

Both series are delivering strong audiences. From Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin, The Chair Company continues to pace as HBO’s top freshman comedy in platform history, with the season averaging 3.3 million (L+3) U.S. cross-platform viewers and growing. From creator and star Rachel Sennott, I Love LA is among the fastest growing original comedies and continues to pace as HBO’s second top freshman comedy in platform history, averaging nearly 2 million (L+3) U.S. cross-platform viewers.

Amy Gravitt, EVP, HBO Programming, Head of HBO & HBO Max Comedy Series, quote:

“We’re thrilled by the incredible response to The Chair Company and I Love LA debuts.  Both shows confidently carry on the HBO comedy tradition, in their own singular way.  We couldn’t be happier to continue collaborating with Tim, Zach, Rachel, and their exceptional teams.”

Both freshman comedies have received critical acclaim. The Chair Company currently has a perfect 100 Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes and is described as “absurdly funny” by The New York Times and “delightfully unhinged” by The Hollywood Reporter; TV Guide called it “the funniest show of the year” and Decider heralded it as “an absolute triumph.” I Love LA, certified fresh by Rotten Tomatoes, was described as “very funny” by IndieWire, “Comedy Gold” by Elle, “a comedy that’s both precise and unhinged” by Vulture, and praised for its “tight production, crisp dialogue, and rich photography” by Los Angeles Times.

The Chair Company

follows a man (Robinson) who, after an embarrassing incident at work, finds himself investigating a far-reaching conspiracy.  Season 1 stars Tim Robinson as William Ronald Trosper, Lake Bell as Barb Trosper, Sophia Lillis as Natalie Trosper, Will Price as Seth Trosper, and Joseph Tudisco as Mike Santini. Lou Diamond Phillips recurs as Jeff Levjman. THE CHAIR COMPANY is executive produced by Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin, Adam McKay and Todd Schulman for HyperObject Industries, Andrew DeYoung, and Igor Srubshchik. Andrew DeYoung and Aaron Schimberg serve as directors on the series.

Season 1 of Task is among HBO’s top three fastest growing debut seasons.

GQ called Task “the show of the year” while Entertainment Weekly praised the show’s “phenomenal cast,” and The Wall Street Journal described the series as “one of the year’s best crime thrillers.”

Francesca Orsi, EVP, HBO Programming, Head of HBO Drama Series and Films, quote:

“We knew well in advance of its launch that we had a powerful drama series on our hands, but it has been so rewarding to witness the audience’s fervor and embrace of this show as it grew week after week. Rarely does a writer balance humanistic storytelling with intricate, explosive plotting but Brad Ingelsby is one of our industry’s greats and we have no doubt he will strike as profoundly and addictively once again in season two.”

Brad Ingelsby, Task creator, showrunner, and executive producer, quote:

“We’ve been incredibly fortunate to have HBO’s unwavering support of Task from the very first script onwards, throughout production, and during their extraordinary launch of our first season to audiences. They are an unmatched creative home. On behalf of the entire Task team, in front of and behind the camera, I am honoured and excited to get back to work on a second season of our show.”

About Task:

Set in the working-class suburbs of Philadelphia, an FBI agent (Mark Ruffalo) heads a task force to put an end to a string of violent robberies led by an unsuspecting family man (Tom Pelphrey).

The first season stars Mark Ruffalo, Tom Pelphrey, Emilia Jones, Jamie McShane, Sam Keeley, Thuso Mbedu, Fabien Frankel, Alison Oliver, Raúl Castillo, Silvia Dionicio, Phoebe Fox and Martha Plimpton.

Creator/writer/showrunner/executive producer, Brad Ingelsby. Director/executive producers, Jeremiah Zagar and Salli Richardson-Whitfield. Executive producers, Paul Lee and Mark Roybal for wiip; Mark Ruffalo; David Crockett; Ron Schmidt. Co-executive producers Nicole Jordan-Webber and Jeremy Yaches for Public Record.

The first season of the HBO Original drama series Task is available now, only on HBO Max.
