HBO Max releases a first look at HBO and Max original series premiering in Australia next year – HBO Max today unveiled an exciting first look at its 2026 programming slate for Australian audiences, promising a year packed with culture-defining series, with a mix of fan-favourite returns and highly anticipated new originals.  

From gripping dramas and award-winning series to epic fantasy adventures, the lineup showcases HBO Max’s commitment to delivering the very best of premium entertainment.  

Kicking off in January are standout premieres, including the second season of the Emmy® Award-winning The Pitt, the return of the critically acclaimed Industry, and the debut of Game of Thrones franchise series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, 2026 will also see the return of iconic titles like Euphoria, House of the Dragon, Dune: Prophecy and The Comeback, alongside fresh new series such as Rooster, DTF St. Louis and Lanterns, positioning HBO Max as the leading home for world-class storytelling in Australia.

HBO Original Series  

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms  

A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premieres Monday January 19, and has already been renewed for season two, which will air in 2027. 

HBO Original Series 

DTF St. Louis  

A darkly comedic limited series starring David Harbour and Jason Bateman, DTF St. Louis explores a love triangle between three adults experiencing middle-age malaise, that leads to one of them ending up dead. 

HBO Original Series  

Untitled Larry David Project 

The untitled half-hour sketch comedy limited series from Larry David, produced by Barrack and Michelle Obamas’ Higher Ground. The series, written by Jeff Schaffer and David, will feature a mix of Curb Your Enthusiasm actors and noteworthy guest stars.

HBO Original Series | DC Studios

Lanterns 

Based on iconic DC title Green Lantern, the series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.  Starring Aaron Pierre, Kyle Chandler, Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, and Ulrich Thomsen. 

HBO Original Two-Part Documentary 

Mel Brooks: The 99 Year Old Man! 

An expansive yet intimate look at one of comedy’s most hilarious and influential minds, whose work has had audiences around the world laughing for more than 70 years.

Max Original Series

The Prince

The Prince, created by Gary Janetti, is an animated comedy that satirically imagines the inner workings of the royal family through the eyes of a fictionalised Prince George, the youngest heir to the throne. From spilling royal “tea” to skewering palace protocol, George offers a mischievous and unfiltered look at his family, their followers, and the monarchy at large.

HBO Original Series  

Rooster  

The 10-episode season, from Warner Bros. Television, hails from co-showrunners and executive producers Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses and stars Steve Carell, who also serves as executive producer. The comedy series is set on a college campus centring on an author’s (Carell) complicated relationship with his daughter (Charly Clive). Rooster will debut in March. 

HBO Original Series  

War 

War follows two of London’s most prestigious rival firms – Cathcarts and Taylor & Byrne – as they go head-to-head in the divorce case of the century. Each side is certain they’ll win. But as the case spirals and loyalties fracture, reputations are on the line, and everyone’s playing to win. This is just the beginning – season one’s explosive case is the first in an anthology of headline-making legal battles. A second season has also been confirmed.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe 

The latest franchise from The Big Bang Theory sees comic book store owner Stuart Bloom tasked with restoring reality after he breaks a device built by Sheldon and Leonard, accidentally bringing about a multiverse Armageddon. Stuart is aided in this quest by his girlfriend Denise, geologist friend Bert, and quantum physicist/all-around pain in the ass Barry Kripke.

Along the way, they meet alternate-universe versions of characters we’ve come to know and love from The Big Bang Theory. As the title implies, things don’t go well.

The Comeback (season three) 

20 years after the first season debuted in 2005, and 10 years after season two, the original comedy series  The Comeback, from  Michael Patrick King and  Lisa Kudrow, will return for a third and final season in March.

Dune: Prophecy (season two)  

The Dune prequel continues its exploration of the Bene Gesserit order, returning for a second season.

Euphoria returns for its highly anticipated third season in April.

HBO Original Series  

House of the Dragon (season three) 

Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood and set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon tells the story of House Targaryen. The third season of this HBO Original drama series will debut in Australian winter 2026.  Ahead of its return, HBO has renewed the series for a fourth season, debuting in 2028.

Industry (season four)  

The fourth season of the critically acclaimed HBO Original drama series debuts Monday, 12 January.  New episodes of the eight-episode season will debut weekly.

The Pitt (season two) 

The Pitt is a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in today’s America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh. The second season returns Friday, 9 January. 

Get ready for our biggest year ever! In 2026, HBO Max will also add Adult Swim titles like Rick and Morty (season 9), Smiling Friends and YOLO, plus  continue to premiere the latest blockbuster films, compelling drama series and thought-provoking documentaries — with even more titles still to be announced.
