Mix Tape on Binge to screen at 2025 SXSW Film and Television Festival – BINGE Original Mix Tape has been selected to premiere at the 2025 SXSW Film and Television Festival in Austin, Texas.

An international co-production between the Foxtel Group, acclaimed Australian production company, Aquarius Films and one of Ireland’s leading TV and film production companies, Subotica, Mix Tape will premiere on Australian streaming platform BINGE and Foxtel in mid-2025.

A four-part event miniseries, Mix Tape begins in Sheffield, England in 1989 with Daniel and Alison’s all-encompassing teenage romance, forever etched in their memories through the music of their generation. Based on the popular and critically acclaimed novel by Jane Sanderson, the classic romance has an international all-star cast, led by acclaimed Australian actress Teresa Palmer (The Clearing, The Fall Guy) as Alison and British actor Jim Sturgess (Across The Universe, Cloud Atlas) as Daniel.  British actress Florence Hunt (Bridgerton, Cursed) and newcomer Rory Walton-Smith play the younger versions of Alison and Daniel.

The Australian cast includes international star Ben Lawson (Bombshell, Designated Survivor), Julia Savage (The Clearing, Blaze), Jacqueline McKenzie (Force of Nature: The Dry 2, Savage River) and Chika Ikogwe (Heartbreak High, Land of the Bad).

The ensemble cast also boasts a stellar lineup of Irish talent, including Mark O’Halloran (Mary & George, The Virtues), Helen Behan (Malpractice, The Virtues), Conor Sánchez (Hope Street, Ellis), Jonathan Harden (Time, Blue Lights), and Siobhan O’Kelly (The Tourist, The Hardacres), along with British actor Alexis Rodney (The Gentleman, Guardians of the Galaxy) and Finnish actress Sara Soulié (Conflict, The Man Who Died).

Alison Hurbert-Burns, Commissioner and Executive Producer said: “Mix Tape is a fantastic addition to our strong and diverse local entertainment slate and continues our commitment to telling Australian stories.  Subotica and Aquarius Films have assembled an incredible cast and creative team who have delivered a world class series, and we are proud that it has been selected by a jury to premiere at one of the world’s biggest celebrations of film and TV – the 2025 SXSW Film and Television Festival.”

SXSW 2025 Film and Television festival has a legacy of championing groundbreaking work through its eclectic mix of genre-busting projects. For nine days in March, creatives of all stripes gather for the acclaimed Film & TV Festival program, to take advantage of the opportunity to connect with a wide array of industry experts, making the Film Festival an unparalleled experience at the forefront of discovery, creativity, and innovation.

Production credit:

Mix Tape was filmed on location across Sydney, Australia and Dublin, Ireland and is a Subotica and Aquarius Films production in association with Boat Rocker for the Foxtel Group. The series is written by Jo Spain and directed by Australian director Lucy Gaffy. The series is produced by Angie Fielder & Polly Staniford for Aquarius Films and Aoife O’Sullivan and Tristan Orpen Lynch for Subotica. Alison Hurbert-Burns, Lana Greenhalgh and Clare Mirabello serve as executive producers alongside David Fortier, Ivan Schneeberg, Nick Nantell, and Erik Pack for Boat Rocker. Major production investment from the Foxtel Group in association with Screen Australia and Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland. Financed with support from the Finnish Impact Film Fund and Screen NSW’s Made in NSW Fund. Boat Rocker are overseeing global distribution for Mix Tape.
