The Catch (M)

Australian Premiere

Fridays at 8.30pm from July 28

Available on Foxtel On Demand and Binge

Starring: Jason Watkins, Poppy Gilbert & Aneurin Barnard

4 x 60′

The Catch is adapted from a best selling novel from TM Logan into a four-part thriller that follows a fisherman whose family life seems to spiral out of control when his daughter goes out with a shady new boyfriend.

Set against the hauntingly beautiful coastline of the south-west of England, this suspense-driven drama revolves around the themes of toxic masculinity and grief. The emotional complex story raises the pertinent moral questions; should we be judged by the actions of our distant past and at what point do we have to stop blaming other people for the life we’ve led?

The cast includes Jason Watkins, Aneurin Barnard, Poppy Gilbert, Cathy Belton and Brenda Fricker.

Finally in Iceland, glaciologists investigate the impact of climate change, while polar bears and arctic foxes must adapt to a landscape that flips from total darkness to midnight sun.

Where the Wild Men Are: Revisited – Series 4

Australian Premiere

Fridays at 8.30pm from July 28

6 x 60′

Adventurer Ben Fogle revisits people around the world who turned their backs on the rat race to set up homes in some of Earth’s most remote locations.

Ben returns to Norway to meet the woman living on a remote island. He revisits the owner of a guest house located deep in the Sahara. And he goes to Wales to find out how a family who built their own eco home are coping. Ben discovers what’s changed for these compelling characters as he learns about the challenges they’ve faced since he first spent time with them. Is life in the wild still their ultimate dream?

In episode 6 Ben heads back to Western Australia to revisit 69-year-old Barbara, a widow who has lived alone in an isolated bush-camp for 16 years. As one of the most colourful and eccentric people he’s ever encountered, Ben is excited to see his Swiss friend but quickly learns that the past 8 years have not been easy.

Last time Ben experienced some of the hottest temperatures he’s ever encountered and learnt that Barbara was striving to maintain the legacy of her deceased husband Roy. That was largely in the form of a wild animal retreat which Barbara was operating on her own. Ben helped move 250-kilogram logs, attempted to stop a 40-year-old truck with a mere rock and carried a new tombstone that Barbara had created to Roy’s final resting place.

Now he discovers that not only has his inimitable friend had to deal with a serious cancer care, but she came close to losing everything in a devasting bush fire. But none of this has dented Barbara’s enthusiasm to keep the dream of Roy’s Retreat alive.
