Discover the extraordinary secrets behind everyday objects and how the rapid pace of technological change has made the miraculous mundane.

Just 20 years ago, the lives we lead today would have seemed like science fiction. A tiny communication device in every pocket? Medicines made from engineered DNA? Cars you plug in at home? Ridiculous! But we now take all these for granted – and the innovations aren’t slowing down. Each episode of The Secret Genius of Modern Life takes one simple everyday item, from bank cards to trainers, and reveals the hidden histories, extraordinary coincidences and remarkable science that dwells within them. You’ll never look at the world around you in the same way again.

Australian Premiere

Using a bouncy mixture of animation and live action, the series expands young children’s vocabulary while encouraging their self-esteem and social confidence. Yakka Dee is like a fun, high-energy picture book, which can be used as English language learning for native or non-native speakers or easily dubbed for other languages in non-English speaking territories.

In each episode Dee sets off on a whirlwind word adventure. As she shows various visualisations of how the word’s used, there are special surprises along the way – and everyone has a boogie when Dee’s friend succeeds in saying the episode’s featured word! New words include Dinosaur, Strawberry, Elf and Pumpkin.
