FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2023 on ESPN – The Australian Opals are set to take on the best in Asia and Oceania on home soil, and your home for hoops on ESPN will have live coverage of every Opals game from the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2023, beginning Monday June 26.

After a terrific showing in last year’s FIBA Women’s World Cup, where they took Bronze, the Opals hope to continue their winnings way as they are again on home court for the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2023.

The Opals have been drawn in Pool B, alongside Japan, Chinese Taipei and the Philippines – with every Opals game in the FIBA Asia Cup 2023 broadcast LIVE on ESPN.

Australia will play back-to-back pool games from Monday-Wednesday, with each group game tipping off LIVE on ESPN at 7.20pm AEST.

ESPN will also broadcast the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2023 Qualifying Finals, Semi Finals, Bronze Medal Game and Gold Medal game LIVE.

The Opals open their campaign against the Philippines, before clashes with Chinese Taipei and defending FIBA Women’s Asia Cup champions Japan.

The FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2023 will not only crown the champions of Asia/Oceania but will also qualify four teams for the 2024 Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

Australia finished third in the 2021 edition of the tournament and have named a strong squad.

Tess Madgen, Darcee Garbin and Anneli Maley headline the 12-player team, and are joined by Alice Kunek (2017), Keely Froling (2021), Lauren Nicholson (2021) and Lauren Scherf (2021), who all have FIBA tournament experience.

Chloe Bibby, Chantel Horvat and Amy Atwell are provided their first opportunities at international level, while Shyla Heal and Maddy Rocci join the squad after impressive WNBL seasons.

Shannon Seebohm will coach Australia at senior level for the first time, with Sandy Brondello currently leading the New York Liberty in the WNBA.

Competition will be fierce in the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2023 with China having eliminated Australia in last year’s FIBA World Cup Semi Final. China have not won an Asia Cup title since 2011.

Japan is defending their FIBA Women’s Asia Cup crown won in Jordan 2021 – after defeating the Chinese in the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup Gold Medal game.
