2023 Cycling Grand Tours on SBS – The Giro D’Italia gets underway tomorrow, Saturday May 6, with the Italian race launching the Grand Tours for 2023, live and exclusively free on SBS and SBS on Demand.

The world’s biggest annual sporting event – the Tour De France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift – will once again deliver all the action to Australian audiences from July 1. The Vuelta a España – the third and final Grand Tour of 2023 – takes place from August 26.

With more than 800 hours of cycling content being presented to Australians in 2023, SBS is the number one destination and home for cycling fans.

Delivering a wealth of experience and providing trusted analysis and expert commentary, SBS’ stellar team of presenters and commentators will be taking viewers along every stage of each of these gruelling and momentous races.  Leading the SBS commentary team for the Giro d’Italia will be Australia’s ‘Voice of Cycling’ Matthew Keenan.

Keenan will be joined across the three weeks in commentary by former Giro d’Italia stage winner and long-standing SBS presenter David McKenzie, dual-Australian road national champion Gracie Elvin, internationally renowned sprinter and lead-out specialist Mark Renshaw, and Simon Gerrans, whose illustrious cycling career includes stage wins at all three Grand Tours and the first Australian to do so.

The commentary team will also deliver full coverage of the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes, with Australian national time trial champion Dr. Bridie O’Donnell re-joining the team from the heart of the action in France.

SBS Director of Sport, Ken Shipp, said:

“SBS is proud to be Australia’s home of cycling. We have dedicated more than 30 years to delivering cycling coverage from all around the world to our audiences. We are very excited to continue to bring the most prestigious, largest and exhilarating global events in the sporting calendar, to our viewers. Our broadcast is led by a highly-credentialled team of presenters and experts, who, alongside our dedicated and talented production team, will deliver world-class round the clock coverage from this year’s races.”

After last year’s historical win by Jai Hindley, the first Australian to win the prestigious Giro d’Italia and only the second to claim a Grand Tour after Cadel Evan’s 2011 Tour De France win, the 106th Giro d’Italia gears up tomorrow, Saturday 6th May. Competitors in the ‘toughest race in the world’s most beautiful place’ will cross the starting line on the stunning Trabocchi Coast in eastern Italy, with victory calling on Sunday 28 May in Rome.

Australians taking to the start-line include Jack Haig and Jay Vine competing for overall honours. Kaden Groves from Australia will be aiming for wins during the sprint stages, while Michael Matthews and Simon Clarke – fresh off Tour de France stage victories in 2022 – will be looking for opportunities to take a stage win at this year’s Giro.

All 21 stages of the Giro d’Italia, covering more than 3,489km of picturesque Italy, will be covered live in full on SBS On Demand, with television coverage on SBS VICELAND later each night. Stage replays, as well as extended highlights and analysis videos, will feature as part of the new Giro hub in SBS On Demand.

The Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift features for the full month of July on SBS. All 21 stages of the Tour de France and all 8 stages of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift will be live and free on SBS and SBS On Demand, with daily highlights and much more.

Looking to make history again and swap his pink Giro jersey for a yellow one, Jai Hindley will make his Tour de France debut, making him one to watch this year along with fellow Australians Ben O’Connor, Caleb Ewan, Simon Clarke and Michael Matthews. After its outstanding inaugural debut in 2022, the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift will return with Australian contenders Grace Brown, Amanda Spratt, Ruby Roseman Gannon and Neve Bradbury.
