FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2023 – After a frenetic week of international basketball, the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2023 moves to the finals stages, as the Australian Opals pursue the crown as the best in Asia and Oceania – and all the action is LIVE on ESPN.

The Opals road to FIBA Women’s Asia Cup glory has been set, as the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup Finals begin Friday June 30 LIVE on ESPN.

Australia dominated the Philippines and Chinese Taipei in their opening pool games of the tournament, before falling to defending FIBA Asia Cup champions, Japan on Wednesday evening.

That result has meant the Opals finished second in their FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2023 pool and will now face Korea in the Qualification Final on Friday June 30, LIVE on ESPN at 7.20pm AEST.

Korea was gallant, despite an 87-81 defeat to China in their final pool match, in a game that had to go to over-time to decide a winner.

Defending FIBA Women’s Asia Cup champions Japan topped Pool A, with China heading Pool B, following the tense win over Korea – ensuring the 2021 FIBA Women’s Asia Cup finalists progress straight to Saturday’s Semi Finals.

ESPN will have a live FIBA Asia Cup Semi Final double header on Saturday July 1, beginning at 4.50pm AEST on ESPN, with the Second Semi Final following LIVE at 7.20pm AEST.

Sunday July 2 will see both the FIBA Asia Cup Bronze Medal Game and Gold Medal Game, also LIVE and exclusive from 2.50pm AEST.

Australia finished third in the 2021 edition of the tournament and are chasing their first ever FIBA Women’s Asia Cup title on home soil in Sydney.

Competition will be fierce in the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2023 with China having eliminated Australia in last year’s FIBA World Cup Semi Final. China have not won an Asia Cup title since 2011.

Japan is defending their FIBA Women’s Asia Cup crown won in Jordan 2021 – after defeating the Chinese in the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup Gold Medal game.

The Japanese have won the last five FIBA Women’s Asia Cups and are favored to continue their reign as the region’s best.

Australia has a number of first choice Opals competing in the WNBA, so have had to turn to an inexperienced international lineup led by Tess Madgen, Darcee Garbin and Anneli Maley, complemented by new faces Chloe Bibby, Chantel Horvat, Shyla Heal and Amy Atwell.
