Analysis
Seven News was #1 and had a clean sweep in all five metro capital city markets. Seven News 6:30 was #2 overall but was #1 in its slot with wins in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. Better Homes and Gardens was #9 but was shaky against Taronga: Who’s Who in the Zoo. The show only won outright in Melbourne and Perth with strong numbers in those markets. However, the show tied with Taronga in Sydney and lost in Brisbane and Adelaide. The always reliable movie, Pretty Woman was #12 with 275 000 and was hugely responsible for the Seven win last night.
Nine News 6:30 was #3 overall and won in Brisbane. Nine News was #4 and did not win in any market. The losing gap in Brisbane was just 4000 viewers. A Current Affair was #5 overall but #1 in its slot with 478 000. Taronga: Who ‘s Who in the Zoo had a great night at #10 with 319 000. It should be noted though that Taronga flogged Better Homes in Adelaide but the lifestyle show on Seven was relegated to 7two in that market due to AFLW on the main channel. However, Taronga was able to tie Better Homes in Sydney and had a strong night in Brisbane. Bridget Jones’ Diary could not compete with Pretty Woman and was watched by 153 000.
The Project 6:30pm had 167 000 but The Project 7pm increased with its half hour on 197 000. 10 aired a repeat of The Living Room with 183 000 viewers. There was only 1 episode remaining in the new season and 10 preferred to save it for next week as the farewell episode will air in the final week of survey. The Graham Norton Show followed with 188 000.
ABC News was #6 overall with 446 000, but lost the slot to ACA. Gardening Australia was #8 for the night and sat above Better Homes in the rankings. However, that does not paint the full picture. Better Homes won in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and only lost Perth by 1000 viewers. The upset was in Adelaide where the ABC took advantage of the fact the AFLW aired on the main channel in that market with Gardening Australia on 64 000 and Better Homes and Gardens on 15 000 on 7two. Frankly was #11 for the night with 298 000. All Creatures Great and Small was #14 with 261 000 and an encore of Fisk had 128 000 viewers.
