Seven’s night was successful off the back of a strong news service and Better Homes and Gardens Summer.

#1 Seven News – 1,140 000 (+2%)

#2 Seven News at 6:30 – 1, 133 000 (+2%)

#7 The Chase Australia – 628 000 (+2%). The show was #1 in its slot

#8 Better Homes and Gardens Summer – 585 000 (+3%)

#9 The Chase Australia – 5pm – 430 000 (+2%). #1 in its slot

#111 Sunrise – 363 000 (+4%). #1 at breakfast

ABC

A Death in Paradise Christmas special gave the ABC a strong night.

#3 Death in Paradise – Christmas Special – 891 000 (+22%)

#6 ABC News – 738 000 (+4%)

#15 Philomena (R) – 268 000 (+10%)

#24 Grand Designs Revisited: Strathaven Revisit (R) – 191 000 (+6%)

#25 Hard Quiz (R) – 189 000 (+9%)

#30 News Breakfast – 173 000 (+5%)

TOTAL TV – 25-54

Better Homes and Gardens Summer was #1 non news, placing #5 with 152 000, a rise of 5%. Death in Paradise was not as popular in this demographic as it was with total people but still ranked #9 for the night. The United Cup tennis tournament actually ranked lower in this demographic than in total people.

OVERNIGHT RATINGS


Analysis

Seven

Seven News was #1 with wins in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. The losses in Sydney and Melbourne were negligible. Seven News at 6:30 was #2 with wins in Adelaide and Perth only. Better Homes and Gardens was #6 for the night, but #1 non news in primetime with 356 000 and winning its slot. The movie, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers had 134 000 viewers. Seven’s Cricket: Third Test – Australia v South Africa Day 3 had the following results:

#12 Session 1 – 207 000

#14 Session 3 – 175 000

#19 Lunch – 149 000

Session 2 – 135 000

Pre Game – 134 000

Tea – 107 000

Nine

Nine News at 6:30 was #3 with wins in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Nine News was #4 with wins in Sydney and Melbourne. Nine aired the 2023 United Cup Day 8 – Night to an audience of 163 000, which ranked #16 overall for the night.

With The Project off air this week, 10 aired a repeat of The Dog House Australia to 146 000, which is on par with what The Project does at 6:30pm. An encore of the NYE special episode of The Graham Norton Show was watched by 109 000 viewers. The movie, Mad Max: Fury Road had an audience of 76 000.

ABC

ABC News was #5 overall for the night. A special presentation titled, Camilla’s Country Life was #8 for the night with 293 000 viewers. The repeat special, A Child in Time had 148 000 viewers.

Winner: ABC Kids / ABC TV Plus (4.5%)

Second: 7two / 10 Bold (3.9%)

ABC TV Plus had a bumper night thanks to two repeat episodes of Hard Quiz ranking #1 and #3 for the night. Spicks and Specks and the movie, Eat Pray Love also ensured the channel a #1 spot for the night. 7two was propelled by two repeats of Border Security: International and two repeats of Escape to the Country. 10 Bold was equal #2 for the night off the back of Bull and NCIS re runs.
