Western Australia shines bright with slew of nominations for 2026 AACTA Award – The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) announced the 2026 AACTA Award nominees over the weekend, including nods for WA-made TV series Invisible Boys, Mystery Road: Origin Season 2, Ghosts Australia, The Twelve: Cape Rock Killer, Reckless and End Game with Tony Armstrong and WA-made feature films The Surfer, The Travellers and We Bury the Dead.

The Western Australian screen industry is well and truly establishing itself as a force to be reckoned with, receiving an impressive 34 nominations for WA-made projects at the 2026 AACTA Awards presented by Foxtel Group, which recognises outstanding achievements across film, television, documentary, short form and digital production.

Nine WA-made projects received a grand total of 34 nominations.

The nine projects are television series; Invisible Boys, Mystery Road: Origin Season 2, Ghosts Australia, The Twelve: Cape Rock Killer, Reckless and End Game with Tony Armstrong and feature films; The Surfer, The Travellers and We Bury the Dead.

Individual Western Australian creatives who received nominations include Lien-See Leong, Hayley Atherton, Trevor Hope, Herbert Pinter, Regg Skwarko, James Grandison, Kelvin Munro, Dan Brown and Tania Chambers, as well as WA actors Mark Coles Smith and Tuuli Narkle.

“Congratulations to all nominees! This year’s sweep of nominations for WA-made projects is a testament to the hard work and talent of our local crews and creatives, as well as the bumper levels of production happening in Western Australia. The nine nominated projects were all supported by Screenwest, and we are incredibly proud to see our work, and locations, recognised on the national stage,”

– said Rikki Lea Bestall, Screenwest CEO.

“This year’s nominations showcase the remarkable creativity and craft behind Australian screen storytelling. It’s encouraging to see such a diverse mix of new voices, returning favourites and world-class productions recognised across film, television, documentary and online content. I congratulate all nominees and look forward to celebrating with the industry as we gather on the Gold Coast for AACTA Festival in February,”

– said AACTA CEO Damian Trewhella.

The Awards will be presented during AACTA Festival, held 4–8 February at HOTA, Home of the Arts on the Gold Coast.

Invisible Boys, Mystery Road: Origin Season 2, Ghosts Australia, The Twelve: Cape Rock Killer, Reckless, End Game with Tony Armstrong, The Surfer, The Travellers and We Bury the Dead were supported by Screenwest, Lotterywest and the Government of Western Australia.
