Blacktop International acquires rights to The Room Below -Kurt Martin’s The Room Below has wrapped production, revealing first look images and key art of the film’s stars Alyssa Sutherland (Evil Dead Rise, Vikings), Golden Globe winner Jonathan Rhys Meyers (The Tudors, Match Point, Mission: Impossible III) and Gilbert Bradman (Transfusion, The Twelve).
International sales company Blacktop International, led by JD Beaufils, is handling worldwide sales rights to the twisted psychological creature horror and will be introducing the film to buyers at this year’s American Film Market (AFM).

In The Room Below, acclaimed children’s book author Mia (Sutherland), grieving the loss of her son, forms a connection with a young boy (Bradman) who resembles the child she lost.
But as a mysterious creature begins to stir within her home and strange events grow harder to explain, her fragile sense of reality draws the attention of a retired detective (Meyers) searching for answers of his own. Bobby Gilchrist (The Invisible Raptor), Lauren Grimson (Sissy, Love and Monsters), and Goran D. Kleut (Alien: Covenant, Hacksaw Ridge) round out the cast.
The film is produced by Jim Robison of Lunar Pictures, Chris Chard of CME, and Ty Linegar. Executive producers include Marc Furmie, Colin Bates, William Ramsey, Adam Cullen, Phil Hunt, Compton Ross, Roy Scott MacFarland, Samuel A. Levine and Jaime King (Sin City, Black Summer).
This marks the second feature from writer-director Kurt Martin following his acclaimed debut Moon Rock for Monday, which premiered at the Zurich Film Festival and was nominated for Best Film at the AACTA Awards.
Martin’s new film continues his focus on emotionally driven stories within a genre framework. Lunar Pictures, based in Byron Bay, is also producing the upcoming feature Switzerland, directed by Anton Corbijn and starring Helen Mirren, Alden Ehrenreich, and Olivia Cooke.
Director Kurt Martin and producer Jim Robison said in a joint statement:
“We’re thrilled to partner with JD Beaufils and Blacktop International on this project. Their passion and reach make them the ideal team to bring The Room Below to audiences worldwide.”
JD Beaufils, Blacktop International said:
“I first came across The Room Below exactly a year ago at AFM in 2024 and when I got the chance to meet Jim and look at some of the footage I made it a priority of acquiring a film that marries the best elements of an elevated psychological horror that goes to frighteningly dark places, has stellar performances by well-known cast and also expert filmmaking from visionary director Kurt Martin.”
The Room Below is currently in post-production and will be presented to international buyers at AFM 2025, ahead of release in 2026. A release date for next year has not been set.
