WNBL Grand Final series on ESPN – The 2023 WNBL season will reach its thrilling climax in a three-game WNBL Grand Final series between the Townsville Fire and the Southside Flyers– and the only place to see every moment LIVE is on ESPN.
The 2023 WNBL Grand Final series kicks off on Saturday March 18 LIVE in primetime at 8pm AEDT on ESPN.
The Southside Flyers booked their place in the WNBL Grand Final Series after a thrilling 73-72 victory over the Melbourne Boomers in the deciding third game of the WNBL Semi Final on Wednesday.
The Flyers edged out the defending champion Boomers to set up a showdown with the red-hot Townsville Fire, who won their own Semi Final series – sweeping the Perth Lynx in two games.
Townsville finished the regular season as minor premiers and they are currently riding a 14-game winning run.
The Fire will enjoy home court advantage in the WNBL Grand Final series, as the highest ranked qualifier, with Saturday’s Game One at the Fire Pit in Townsville.
Southside Flyers are yet to defeat Townsville this season and will start outsiders.
However, the Flyers have tasted a Grand Final victory over the Fire, prevailing 99-82 in the 2020 decider.
Sara Blicavs will look to make her mark on the series for the Flyers. Blicavs was the star in their Semi Final victory over the Boomers on Wednesday.
She finished with 14 points and was well supported by Maddy Rocci. Rocci also hit 14 points – including a clutch three pointer in the closing moments to edge Southside in front.
The Fire are full of offensive weapons, led by Tianna Hawkins, who put together a 23-point haul against the Lynx in Game Two of the Semi Final series.
Lauren Nicholson was also the architect, shooting 15 points and seven assists.
Game Two of the Grand Final series will be LIVE on Wednesday March 22 at 6.30pm AEDT, as the action heads to Melbourne.
Game Three* if needed is scheduled for Saturday March 25 at 8pm AEDT, back in Townsville.
Game Two and Game Three* of the WNBL Grand Final series will be exclusively live on ESPN.
