Tune in for an episode with a difference as cheese, travel, crocodiles and zen combine on My Way, this Sunday at 5.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
We begin with a taste of zen from Simply Japanese Bonsai at the Eumundi Markets. Michael Eberle has always had a love of Japanese culture, and after leaving home for a commune at the age of 14 he was tasked with maintaining the plants. Inspired to master the craft of ornamental bonsai trees, he now shares his creations with Sunshine Coast market-goers in a state of pure zen.
Wendy Downes swapped her job in town planning to champion Australian cheese with a rare passion. She is a keen student of affinage, the French art of ageing fine cheese, which is the speciality of her Albion-based store called The Cheeseboard. There she also draws on her vast experience with European cheese-makers to show small-scale Aussie producers how to make a living without getting cheesed off.
In Central Queensland’s Coowonga, just outside Rockhampton, viewers meet 80-year-old John Lever at his Koorana Crocodile Farm. After a long stint on a CSIRO research station he got sick of looking at cows and bulls and took a two-year secondment overseas working with crocodiles. When he came home, Koorana Crocodile Farm was born, and after 40 years it’s still going strong for John and wife Lillian.
Finally, we hit the road with an ultra-adventurous travelling family, the Urech-Wrights. After news of wife Aimee’s father’s life being cut short, she and husband Tom left their home in Melbourne for a short road trip around Australia. Fast-forward seven years and the Urech-Wrights are still on the move, currently parked up in Yeppoon, after selling their home for a life on the road, raising and schooling four boys as they go.
