The Mystery of the Nazca Lines on SBS – It is one of the biggest enigmas of modern archaeology – a discovery which gave place to all kinds of theories, and which has not revealed all its secrets yet.
In Peru, 350km south of the capital, Lima, in the valley of Nazca, one can see from the sky gigantic figures representing stylised animals – a hummingbird, a monkey, a spider, a whale, as well as spirals and lines that are several kilometres long.
These figures were nicknamed the ‘lines of Nazca’, and much of its history is yet to be discovered. Who drew these lines? How, and why? What is represented by these drawings and what is their meaning?
From the first explorations to the most recent discoveries by archaeologists, this documentary aims to lift the veil on the mystery of the Nazca lines.
