Return to Paradise on ABC and ABC iview S1E2 – It’s the Dolphin Cove Fun Run, and tragically local Curtis Faleafa collapses of an apparent heart attack at the finish line.
In an incongruous coincidence Curtis left Mackenzie a cryptic voicemail right before his death. And if there’s one thing Mackenzie Clarke believes, it’s that there are no coincidences.
Could poison be behind Curtis’ death? But how could someone slip the poison into one cup of hundreds during the fun run, and ensure it would make its way to Curtis?
Colin is not sure he’s ready to let Mackenzie take the lead on this case, but she easily outmanoeuvres him, and he finds himself out of his dream house (the beach shack she offered him), his dream job, and paired with the person most antithetical to him in existence. And Colin’s not the only one not sold on Mackenzie. Her image with the Dolphin Cove residents is still as bad as it gets.
Glenn’s cousin Trevor isn’t making life easy, and Mackenzie’s still getting disrespected on her own property from a gaggle of trespassing bathers.
At the very least not everyone is hostile – sweet natured Daisy (Andrea Demetriades) is at least pleased to see Mackenzie, and even defends her to Colin when he complains about his new ‘partner’.
It’s a bit unsettling for Mackenzie to discover that her ex-Glenn has a partner too… but she’s determined to focus on the case.
Mackenzie’s investigation takes her into the world of Curtis’ partner Jade McCready (Naomi Sequeira), Dolphin Cove girl turned globally successful wellness influencer. Jade beat cancer as a schoolgirl, and again as an adult, and has built her empire on her story: that JADE-branded supplements helped her beat cancer when traditional medicine had failed her.
She stands to benefit to the tune of Curtis’ half of the imminent $40m sale of JADE Limited to private equity. And she’s not the only one who stood to benefit from his death.
