The much-loved residents of Ramsay Street are returning home to Network 10 in 2023 after Fremantle, the producers of Australia’s favourite drama Neighbours, secured Amazon Freevee and Prime Video as their international partner.

The long-running daily series, which follows the lives, loves and challenges of the residents of Ramsay Street, will be restored to the millions of adoring fans worldwide.

The revival of Neighbours means the return of iconic cast members Jackie Woodburne, Alan Fletcher, Stefan Dennis and Ryan Moloney, with further casting announcements to come. You can find out what Jackie and Ryan have to say about the return of Neighbours here.

Network 10, the home of Neighbours for over three decades, will retain first run broadcast rights in Australia. UK and U.S. audiences can view the series free of charge on Amazon Freevee. The revitalized series will also be available ad free on Prime Video in Australia and New Zealand seven days following the free to air viewing of the new series, and exclusively on Prime Video in Canada.

Neighbours has been a staple of Network 10’s program schedule for decades, responsible for launching the careers of hundreds of actors, including household names Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce, Jason Donovan, Margot Robbie and Delta Goodrem.

The show’s Forest Hill studios have been a vital training ground for behind-the-scenes creatives and writers in all aspects of television production.

Beverley McGarvey, Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer, Paramount Australia and New Zealand said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Neighbours back home to Network 10, and while we loved the finale earlier this year and appreciated the incredible support from the cast, crew and fans, we continued to hold a small glimmer of hope that one day it would be possible to resume the series.

“We are grateful for the tenacity and determination displayed by Fremantle in securing a new production partner so our association could continue.

“A much-loved stalwart of our program schedule for over 35 years, we can’t wait to bring back the perfect blend of soap and sunshine to Australian audiences which will also add a fantastic boost to the Victorian and wider production community.”

Greg Woods, CEO Fremantle Australia, said: “The love for Neighbours is undeniable and we have been determined to explore every possible avenue to bring it back for loyal fans across the world. We are beyond thrilled to have secured this landmark deal with Amazon Freevee, along with Network 10 in Australia, long-term and passionate supporters of the show.

“We will be going back into the writing room immediately and production for this wonderful series will begin next year. Neighbours has been so important for the Victorian production community, and along with our partners, will provide new opportunities on both sides of the camera. We cannot wait to get started.”

Neighbours ran for 37 years and nearly 9000 episodes, garnering fans across the globe. The Australian produced show has screened in multiple countries over its reign on-air including the UK, airing on both BBC One and most recently Channel 5 since its launch in 1985.

The final episode of Neighbours aired in July on 10, 10 Peach and 10 Play attracting an audience of 1.48 million viewers with Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce and Jason Donovan all returning to revive their beloved characters in the final episode, paying tribute to the series.

Jason Herbison, Neighbours’ Executive Producer – Fremantle since 2013, and Rick Maier, Head of Drama and Executive Production, Paramount ANZ will maintain their positions on the exciting new chapter of Neighbours, with Andrew Thompson returning as Producer.

Production is set to commence in early 2023 with a world premiere slated for the second half of the year.

Amazon Freevee Brings Back Iconic Series Neighbours

Stefan Dennis as Paul Robinson, Alan Fletcher as Karl Kennedy, Ryan Moloney as Toadie Rebecchi, and Jackie Woodburne as Susan Kennedy reprise their roles as residents of Ramsay Street

The cherished series will premiere exclusively on Amazon Freevee in the U.S. and UK

Today, Amazon Freevee and Fremantle have proudly announced the iconic series Neighbours will be returning to television with a brand-new series to begin filming in Australia next year. The continuation of the long-running daily drama series—about the lives, loves, and challenges of the residents on Ramsay Street in Erinsborough, Australia, a fictional suburb of Melbourne—follows the finale earlier this year, which was watched by millions of adoring fans. Stefan Dennis, Alan Fletcher, Ryan Moloney, and Jackie Woodburne will return to reprise their leading roles.

The revitalized series will premiere exclusively for free on Amazon Freevee in the UK and U.S. and will include streaming rights to thousands of episodes from the previous seasons, available prior to the new series’ premiere. The series will also stream on Prime Video in Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. Production is set to commence in early 2023 with a world premiere slated for the second half of the year.

“Neighbours has captivated its audience for nearly 40 years, building a dedicated and loyal following for the lives and stories of the characters on Ramsay Street,” said Lauren Anderson, head of AVOD original content and programming, Amazon Studios. “With the power of streaming, we’re able to offer a catalogue of thousands of Neighbours episodes for new audiences to discover this legendary series and current fans to relive their favorite moments. We look forward to immersing the audience in new Ramsay Street experiences when we relaunch the show next year for Amazon Freevee and Prime Video customers.”

“Neighbours is a unique series with a powerful connection with its fans across the world. We cherish the show and all those who have been part of its incredible story over many decades, so we are thrilled that we have found a new home with Amazon Freevee. Thanks to the innovative Amazon Freevee platform, many classic episodes will be available to fans, and Neighbours will go back into full production in Australia early next year, providing our fans with new episodes,” said Jennifer Mullin, global CEO, Fremantle. “This partnership with Amazon Freevee marks an exciting new chapter, and we look forward to collaborating with them, along with our long-term and valued partner in Australia, Network10.”

Neighbours ran for more than three decades and nearly 9,000 episodes, garnering fans across the globe and launching the careers of many household names. The Australian show has screened in multiple countries during its reign, including the UK, airing on both BBC One and, most recently, Channel 5, since its launch in 1985. The final episode of Neighbours aired in July 2022 and featured guest star appearances from Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce, Jason Donovan, and Margot Robbie, all of whom were series cast members earlier in their careers.

Neighbours is produced by Fremantle. Jason Herbison, Neighbours’ executive producer since 2013, will maintain his position on the exciting new chapter of Neighbours, with Andrew Thompson returning as producer.

Australia’s Network 10, the home of Neighbours for 36 years, will retain first-run rights in Australia for the new series.
